After his failure to bind Bloody August, Orphen sulks. Majic and Cleao ask Orphen to explain how Azalie was turned into a dragon.
Orphen explains that both he and Azalie were both orphans as children, and ran away from their orphanage. They were taken in by the Tower of Fang, where they were trained in the magical arts. Azalie was one of the school's most promising pupils, though her desire for knowledge often caused her to take liberties with the rules.
One night, Azalie asked Orphen to come up to her room after dinner and assist her with a magical experiment. Upon arriving, Orphen witnessed Azalie's transformation. To cover up their disgrace, Azalie was declared dead and was given a funeral. This outraged Orphen, and he turned on the school, changing his name to what he's called now.
