Overview

Written by Ito Ogure, Tenjo Tenge was published in Ultra Jump and was soon made into an anime series, which aired in April 2004. It lasted until September that year and made another appearance in 2005.

Plot

The story follows the events in a high school between the student body, On one side we have the powerful Executive Council and on the other side we have the Juken Club. The students all seem to have super powers and are taught in the art of combat. As the story grows, so does the atmosphere between the two student teams as they get evolved with a battle that has been raging for years.

Jyuken Club

Souichiro Nagi (凪 宗一郎 Nagi Sōichirō)

Voiced by: Sōichirō Hoshi Steve Cannon

Souichiro Nagi who is a self proclaimed hoodlum, and the heir of the Demon Exorcist family. A first-year student, he has been fighting his whole life because of being picked on, due to his lineage. He lives for the fight and wants to fight any one who is tough. He joins the Jyuken Club to get stronger so he can defeat the Executive council.
Aya Natsume (棗 亜夜 Natsume Aya)
Voiced by: Minori Chihara Tiffany Hsieh
Aya Natsume a first-year student at the Todo Academy and younger sister to Shin and Maya she possesses dragon eyes, which gives her the ability to see anywhere in the past, present, and possible futures like her brother did before her. She has devoted herself to becoming Souichiro’s wife, because she believes that the first man you reveal yourself to you should devote your life to as well as her love for him.
Shin Natsume (棗 慎 Natsume Shin)
Voiced by: Shūichi Ikeda Liam O'Brien
Shin Natsume who is Maya and Aya's older brother, was the president of the Executive Council and founder of the Juken Club. He had the power of the dragon eyes like Aya, but was driven insane by them which started with his possession of the Reiki.
Maya Natsume (棗 真夜 Natsume Maya)
Voiced by: Aya Hisakawa Wendee Lee

Maya Natsume the only member of her family without the Dragon Eye she is captain of the present Juken Club. A third-year student, she can control her body by shrinking herself to the appearance of an 8 year-old. She had a relationship with Mitsuomi in the past.

Masataka Takayanagi (高柳 雅孝 Takayanagi Masataka)
Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki Kevin Hatcher
Masataka Takayanagi who is also Mitsuomi's younger brother who trains under Maya in the Junken Club. He's an excellent martial artist and can enter into a berserker like rage when pushed too far.
Bob Makihara (ボブ 牧原 Bobu Makihara)
Voiced by: Shinichiro Miki Taylor Henry

Bob Makihara a friend of Souichiro. He and Souichiro first met and became friends in elementary school. Naturally athletic, he fights using the Brazilian fighting style capoeira. He is very laid back and doesn't let his anger rule him.

The Executive Council

Mitsuomi Takayanagi (高柳 光臣 Takayanagi Mitsuomi)
Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa Kurt Strauss

Mitsuomi Takayanagi the president of the Executive Council and Todo Academy's top fighter. He was at one time close to both Maya and Shin but due to past events no longer is close to Maya as she blames him for the death of her brother.

Emi Isuzu (五十鈴 絵美 Isuzu Emi)
Voiced by: Haruhi Terada Kate Davis
Emi Isuzu a third-year student, as well as the vice-president of the Executive Council. She follows Mitsuomi's orders and has a deep love and respect for him. She fights using a seemingly endless amount of knives but its only illusion as she has more places to hide them than her opponents can see.
Bunshichi Tawara (俵 文七 Tawara Bunshichi)
Voiced by: Kazuki Yao Kirk Thornton
Bunshichi Tawara a twenty-year-old senior of Todo Academy once a close friend to Shin and Mitsuomi. While he dislikes fighting as he says he doesn't like the pain he is easily one of the strongest in the school but regularly avoids fighting.
Shirō Tagami (田上 士郎 Tagami Shirō)
Voiced by: Eiji Hanawa Dave Mallow
Shiro Tagami a self proclaimed samurai also a third-year student and leader of the 3rd division group of the Executive Council. He claims that they must take down Aya as if they let her powers mature she will be unbeatable. His style of fighting is using a hybrid bō that can turn into a sansetsukon.
Kōji Sagara (相良 浩治 Sagara Kōji)
Voiced by: Kenta Miyake George C. Cole
Koji Sagara second-year student and the founder of the Pro Wrestling group, which became a subsidiary of the Executive Council. He joined the Executive Council only after Mitsuomi attacked then promised his start-up group would not be destroyed, would get a place to practice, and have a budget.
Tsutomu Ryuuzaki (竜崎 勤 Ryūzaki Tsutomu)
Voiced by: Kenji Hamada , Derek Stephen Prince
Tsuomu Ryuuzaki a second-year student, fire-elemental user, and an enforcer of the Executive Council. He was assigned to punish Souichiro and Bob for their actions at school.

Mana Kuzunoha (葛葉 真魚 Kuzunoha Mana)
Voiced by: Shiho Kawaragi Melissa Fahn
Mana Kuzunoha assigned to be Shins girlfriend in order for her to be in a better position to observe and collect data about him for the Takayanagi family. Though she comes to truly care for Shin.
Chiaki Kounoike (鴻ノ池 千秋 Kōnoike Chiaki)
Voiced by: Ryoko Shiraishi Julie Ann Taylor
Chiaki Kounoike, Bob's girlfriend with a very open mind at first she opposes Bobs involvement with the Juken Club. When Bunshichi explains the whole story, Chiaki decides to give support to the Juken Club, still believing that Maya's stubbornness is what caused the past events to occur.

The anime adaption title Tenjho Tenge directed by Toshifumi Kawase and written by Toshiki Inoue its original run began April 1, 2004 and ran until September 16, 2004. The series contains 24 episodes.

OVA

Ultimate Fight (March 2005)

The OVA Ultimate Fight directed by Toshifumi Kawase and written by Kazuhiko Inukai and released threw Madhouse Studios on March 16, 2005 containing two episodes.

Anime Film

The Past Chapter

An anime film titled The Past Chapter directed by Toshifumi Kawase and written by Rintaro was also released under Madhouse Studio on March 30, 2006 and had a run time of 92 minutes.
