Tem Ray is a Lieutenant in the Earth Federation and the creator of the original RX-78-2 Gundam. He is the father of Amuro Ray.
Tem Ray had been stationed on Side 7 while working on the V Project, the project consisted of multiple different mobile suits the Federation hoped to use against the Zeon Forces. The primary design of Tem's was the RX-78-2 Gundam which became the most powerful weapon on the battlefield during the One Year War. Tem's primary work for the Federation would end on Side 7 when the project was discovered by the Zeon. While attempting to secure a tractor to pull the Gundam onto White Base, Amuro, Tem's son, piloted the Gundam and engaged the Zaku's. In close proximity to Tem, Amuro struck a Zeon Zaku in its reactor, causing a massive explosion and blowing a hole in the side of the colony. Tem and the officer accompanying him to the tractor were thrown into space from the loss of pressure. Luckily for the two they were wearing air tight space suits. However, Amuro would not see his father again until he find him living near a junk yard on Side 6, having lost much of his mind to oxygen deprivation of working in Federation projects for years.
It is suspected that Tem Ray died by falling down a flight of stairs of his home on Side 6 after celebrating Amuro's televised victory against the Zeon.
