As life goes on for Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi, the two wonder if their piece "The Two Earths" will be selected for the monthly award. Takagi wonders how Mashiro is doing sitting next to his crush and future wife Miho Azuki, as Mashiro explains that he is no longer sick when he sits next to her but can barely concentrate still when he is near her. Takagi states that she should get her email address since he is too nervous to. During class though, Mashiro finds himself comfortable writing little notes to Azuki during class and drawings that make her giggle. Takagi berates him for talking about simple things as opposed to asking her for her email address.
At Shueisha, Akira Hattori is going over the Two Earths as he is wondering whether or not to submit it to the monthly contest as he notices Yujiro Hattori and Hisashi Sasaki leaving for Aomori to recruit Eiji Nizuma to move to Tokyo and begin serialization of his work. Hattori and another editor discuss the amazing quality of Nizuma's work and how serializing him wouldn't be too much of a stretch since he appears to be in high school and is able to submit high performing pieces every month. As they continue talking, Hattori's department head Aida asks that Hattori submit Mashiro and Takagi's work since he does. He knows that Aida would probably beat him for it if he didn't do so.
Back at school, Takagi and Mashiro are trying to figure out what to do next as they witness a couple argue on the roof about their relationship. As they head back to class, Mashiro laments on how he and Azuki won't be going to the same school and wonders if they can actually remain so far apart forever. During class, he writes a note asking if they have to wait until their dreams come true as Azuki starts to cry. When class is over, Mashiro finds a note listing her email address as he realizes that by asking her that question, he crushed both of their dreams as well as it must be equally hard for her to do this too. Mashiro rushes to her house during the night, debating on whether to email her or not but decides not to in the end as Azuki and Kaya Miyoshi talk about why she cried in class.
The next day, Mashiro writes Azuki another note that states that he'll email her once they change seats and that they will be together definitely when their dreams come true. Azuki cries again but smiles as well as the day goes on normally. Miyoshi still wants to know what is going on but Azuki doesn't tell her anything. At the studio, Mashiro claims that he wants to see Azuki smile the way she did when he told her about his dreams as they get a call from Hattori. They are told that they didn't make the cut but should keep on working. The two decide to push themselves harder and come up with something better for his approval.
In Aomori, Sasaki and Yujiro are meeting with Nizuma's parents to get their approvaI, which they give immediately. They meet with Nizuma who has a stipulation for going to Tokyo in that if he becomes the most successful one there, then he has the right to end any series he wants. Sakaki and Yujiro look on dumbfounded by his request as he continues to draw.
