Team Takashi is the protagonist group from the Highschool of the Dead that was written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shouji Sato. The series first began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine in July 2006. After several of their trials, Takashi was officially asked by the members to be their leader. They are primarily made up of students and a teacher from Fujimi High School that escaped the outbreak of Them (the title given to the zombies) together.
The creators referred to the roles of each of the members using the same titles of classic RPGs. Takashi is the leader, the fighters are Saeko, Rei, and Kohta; Saya is the wizard due to her knowledge, and Shizuka is the priest since she's the doctor. The title of "Team Takashi" is a fan made creation. The group is a confirmed team, but they have never been given any official title in the series. The title was given as a comparison to the "Team Grimes" from the Walking Dead that was written by Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Tony Moore. The names are after the groups' leaders.

She would later meet up with him and join with the team to find their families.

Her time as a member of the team for the escape was short lived. She sacrificed herself to save another person then purposely screamed out to draw the attention of Them to her This was to save the members of Team Takashi. She was trapped with no escape. Calling out to Kohta, she asked him to not let her become one of the undead. She confessed her love for him, and he fulfilled her wish by shooting her dead before they could reach her.
Kiriko Miyamoto is the mother of the team member Rei. She's a former police officer who was infamous to the local criminals. She would eventually marry Rei's father and stay at home to raise their child. She's a strong willed woman who used to be the leader of an all girl gang. During the outbreak she was staying with neighbors near her home, but they had turned against her after they let a new person into the house. After sending her out for supplies, they refused to let her back in. This is when she was found by her daughter and her friends. They told her about the evacuation at the local elementary school. She joined the team from there to escape with them and meet up with her husband.
Team Takashi was formed out of the necessity of survival. When the attack of Them first swarmed Fujimi High School, Takashi and Rei teamed up, Saya and Kohta joined forces, and Saeko rescued Shizuka. They gathered together when Saya and Kohta came under attack and they moved to the school's faculty office, where Shizuka kept her car keys. She only had a compact, but decided to take the minibus the school uses for special trips. They decided that they would need tea work to escape. First they were going to find as many survivors as they could, and move to the exit. They found a few students left alive, but the exit was swarmed by Them. Takashi was the one to volunteer to test Saya hypothesis that Them were blind and were drawn by sound. He stood into the middle and went unnoticed, and used a nearby shoe to lure them away and clear a path for the survivors. Accidentally, one of the students knocked a pole onto the railing and the sound echoed through the school. They made a mad rush for the bus but a few of their latest members were caught and died. As they got to the bus and were ready to leave, they were called out by other students who were trying to escape. This group was being led by Shido Koichi, the teacher of class 3-A. Takashi wanted to wait for them, but Rei forcefully wanted to leave them behind. Shido's group got on the minibus and were able to escape.
As they were riding along the city into town, a small revolt occurred among Takashi and a member of Shido's group, Tsunoda. Shido took this opportunity to try and take leadership of the entire group. He gave a grand speech that many were charmed by. Hearing that Shido was taking control, Rei leaped from the bus, and Shido was ready to cast aside anyone not willing to follow him. Takashi rushed out to stop her. Before he could convince her to at least ride on the bus with them at least until they reached deeper into the city, a city bus came crashing in and nearly crushed Takashi and Rei. They escaped by running into a nearby tunnel and the burning bus blocked their path. Saeko ran out and called out to Takashi. He called out and told them they would meet up again at the Eastern Police Station. Saeko got back on the minibus and Takashi with Rei took a nearby dirt bike and went their own direction.
Later on the minibus, Saeko and the rest of Team Takashi watched as Shido continued to charm the students. Saya said they were witnessing the birth of a new religion, the Order of Shido. Saya and the rest refused Shido's leadership and said they were going to part ways there. Though Shido didn't care that the students weren't going to follow him, he tried to claim Shizuka, since she was a doctor. He was scared off when Kohta fired off his nail gun across his cheek, but had missed on purpose. He covered the girls as they left the bus.
They were now without transportation and the sun was going to be setting soon. to their surprise, Takashi and Rei arrived on the street they were standing on. Shizuka had a friend who's house was nearby that they could rest, shower, and had a huge car.
