Takeshi is cheerful boy from Tsuna's class whose dream is to become professional baseball player. He spends most of his time either practicing or helping out in his father's sushi restaurant. Introduced as playful and happy guy, Yamamoto is not hard to become friend with. He succeeded in making some of the series's angriest characters his friends or comrades, such as Hibari or Superbi Squalo. Takeshi is athletic built, tall, with dark, almost black hair and brown eyes. A smile is almost always present on his face, and as he is very kind to people, he soon became one of the Namimori High School's idols, being very loved by girls in the school.
Takeshi joins up with Tsuna's family because he thinks this whole mafia thing is nothing more than a game, so he is more than happy to play along, even later in the series when things turn into life or death battles. However even though he thinks these are games, he still realizes when it is the right time to be serious. In the series, it's shown that he is willing to put his life on the line for friends and comrades, and Reborn noted that out of all people from Vongola Family, Yamamoto Takeshi probably has the most talent for being an assassin.
Kokuyo Gang Arc
When many members of his school are attacked by members of Kokuyo Junior High, Yamamoto joins Tsuna as they go to the abandoned Kokuyo amusement park to confront this gang. Yamamoto was trapped underground with Ken, whose animal like speed and agility served as an advantage under there. Yamamoto used the special bat that he was given by Reborn which transformed into a sword whenever he swung it to battle him, but Ken was able to break it. When it looked like Ken was going to attack Tsuna, Yamamoto jumped in and sacrificed his arm to take the bite from Ken, allowing him to use his broken sword to deliver a blow to Ken that knocked him out. After the battle Reborn gave Yamamoto another sword just like the last one which would replace his broken one, however when Lanchia attacked their group Yamamoto was beaten by his giant ball and chain, even after figuring out the secret to fighting it.
The Varia and the Vongola Rings
While out relaxing with Gokudera and Tsuna, Yamamoto and his friends were attacked and defeated by Squalo, only to later learn that he was a member of the Varia, a group of skilled assassins who worked for the Vongola family. It was time for Tsuna and his family to receive the Vongola Rings, rings which would represent their place as the next family in the line of the Vongola and give them their rank as Guardians of the Sky. Yamamoto, like each of his friends, would have to battle a member of the Varia in order to receive his ring, and he would have to face off against Squalo, the very person who just beat him. Knowing this would be a battle of sword skills, Yamamoto went to his father, a master of the Shigure Soen fighting style. He gives Yamamoto a sword that looks like a normal wooden sword, but whenever he fights with the Shigure Soen style it turns into an actual sword.
Yamamoto perfects his own technique
Yamamoto fights with Squalo as part of the Rain Ring Trial, and they must battle in an abandoned part of the school that is slowly filling up with water with live sharks being released in it. Yamamoto quickly learns that even though he has learned how to use the Shigure Shoen style, Squalo has already faced this style and defeated it. He knows every move that Yamamoto might make and is able to counter them all. However, in order to truly master the Shigure Shoen, one must not only learn the attacks of each former master of it, but they must also create their own attack. Yamamoto entered the battle not having yet perfected his own technique, but midway through the battle is able to come up with one which uses the water around him to create an illusion that confuses Squalo. He defeats him with this technique and retrieves Squalo's half of the ring, however the shark's that have been let loose are closing in and Yamamoto tries to rescue Squalo, only to watch as he is dragged down into the water. Luckily after the Varia battles are all over Yamamoto is relieved to learn that Squalo was saved by Dino.
