1955- . Born in Yamanashi Prefecture, Nakamura is one of the unsung heroes of modern anime, with a strong resumé of work that often seems to be better known and more highly respected by other animators than by the public at large. He performed key animation duties on both Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind and Akira, but his directorial work has remained limited to relatively obscure titles such as Catnapped and Tree of Palme. He deserves to be considered alongside Mamoru Oshii (q.v.) as one of the distinctive creators in modern Japanese animation.
