Who would've thought that a baseball Anime could be this enjoyable? Don't get me wrong, I like the sport but I didn't think this would make a good anime? With an awesome cast consisting of
Nakahara Mai,
Kitamura Eri,
Noto Mamiko,
Makino Yui,
Hirohashi Ryou,
Ueda Kana and more great talents, this was sure to be a great anime.
The story based in 1925 (year 14 of the Taisho period), girls were mainly to be housewives. However, two 14-yeard-old school girls decide to start a baseball team to prove that girls can play baseball. At this time of age, baseball was consider a male-only sport so the story follows them through how they recruit new members, getting permission from their parents and learning about the sport itself.
The animation quality is good, however it seems to me that Koume is the only character who has a child-like face whereas others have a normal anime face. The environments are well drawn. As a comedy, the dialogue offers some great laughs and some scenes give that "wow" factor along the way. The opening music was "meh" for me but the ending song is sung very well by Ito Kanae (Suzukawa Koume).
For a 12-episode anime, J.C. Staff did a great job. Although it was short, it was very enjoyable.
