Syrup Village is the home to Kaya and Usopp, current Straw Hat Sniper. It is also the place in which the then-new Straw Hat Pirates receive their first proper pirate ship, a small ship by the name of Going Merry.
The small, peaceful community that resides on a small island, Syrup Village is the home of Straw Hat Pirate Usopp and the place in which Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, and Zoro help put a stop the wicked extortion/murder scheme that Captain Kuro plans against the frail Kaya. As a reward for saving her life from the clutches of both Kuro and his pirate crew, Kaya and her loyal servant Merry awards the Straw Hat Pirates a small ship by the name of Going Merry, which becomes pivotal to their upcoming adventures. After some thought, Usopp also decides to join up with the Straw Hat Pirates in order to seek out adventure.
Syrup Village was created by Eiichiro Oda for use within the One Piece manga, and the reason for it's creation is not fully known (outside of providing as the home for one of the Straw Hat Pirates for their origin story). Syrup Village first appears in both One Piece: Volume Three and in One Piece #8.
