Hey Anime Vice and welcome back for another episode of "Dunce Cap"! Today's episode is pretty simple even though it may seem I''m behind the times. Anyway, let's get to it. Today's topic is the Madhouse animated, Warner Bros. released, FUNimation dubbed, Blu-ray release of Summer Wars!

WARNING! This video contains explicit language. Also, this video is not edited in any way.

Please feel free to provide suggestions for an anime or manga for me to talk about and I will do my best to oblige. Also, if you are curious about anything discussed in this-or previous-episode(s) don't hesitate to ask me for more information/opinions.

The movie Summer Wars, created by the celebrated director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - Mamoru Hosoda, has quickly become one of the larger anticipated anime movies to hit the U.S. market. A touching story of family, love, and the internet that consumes us all in one form or another. All through November we had bits of news leaked to us through FUNimation, the movies U.S. licensee. A rush was made to put this into the theaters in time for it to qualify for the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony, and the nominees for Best Animated Feature will be due on January 25, 2011. If they succeed this would the only the third anime movie to be nominated for the Oscar in that category. The movie has already swept through three over film festivals with awards. Winners of the "Mainichi Film Concours" - Best Animated Film 2010, "Stiges International Film Festival" - Best Animated  Film 2010, & "Fantasia Film Festival" - Best Animated Film 2010.

Though the English dubbed version is on the North American circuit, the subtitled version is continually being shown at Film Festivals across the world. It's already begun showing in theaters. See below if it's coming anywhere near you and for show dates.

In honor of all this attention and news. I took it upon myself to exercise my normal level of OCD on the Anime Vice profiles for Summer Wars. Go check out the profile and you will find that the entire movie cast now has a profile, no matter how minor the character, and complete list of voice actors for the English and Japanese versions. I will say, that was a tedious task to make all those cast profiles, but it was worth it. If you don't believe me. Check out these trailers and clips from the movie.

Mamoru Hosoda's 2009 anime movie; Summer Wars has been creating quite a buzz with the fact that this anime movie has been dubbed and will soon be released in the US. After an announcement from Anime USA, FUNimation's blog released the list of US theatrical dates for the movie.

Along with GKids, FUNimation will be responsible for the distribution of this anime across theaters in the US.

Summer Wars is about a boy's innocent summer vacation in which he spends pretending to be a classmate's boyfriend to impress her family. That summer trip becomes a fight for humanity in which the boy, Kenji, must now fight himself.

Unfortunately for me, the theatrical release will not be at my city, and the anime itself seems like a movie I would enjoy. The good thing is that you can request for it to be shown in your favorite movie theater. Just ask your local theater to contact Gkids to arrange a showing of the movie.
Will you be watching this movie?
