The main protagonist of the Kinnikuman (original run) franchise, Suguru faced many trials to become king of Muscle Planet.

Origin/Welcome to Earth, Kinnikuman!

Born to Mayumi and Sayuri Kinniku, king and queen of Planet Kinniku, Suguru has had a rather unusual childhood. Embarrassed by his son's stupid appearance, King Mayumi had the urge to strangle the child on occasion. One day, the Kinniku family took a vacation to Earth (mainly Japan) and had a pig sneak on-board their ship and into Suguru's cradle. Mistaking the pig for his son, Mayumi threw Suguru overboard and went home with his wife and "child." Suguru had to raise himself while on Earth. He built a one-room house and went to school, but he was so uneducated that he flunked almost constantly. As he grew older, he idolized the hero Ultraman and decided to become like him. But despite his muscles and strength, he was too idiotic and clumsy to be taken seriously. Instead, he settled on becoming president of a club dedicated to his favorite food: beef on rice (or gyuudon).

The Early Stages of Becoming a Hero

The Machineguns!
The Machineguns!
By his twentieth birthday, Suguru was paid a visit by a messenger from Planet Kinniku named Alexandria Meat. The boy had been dispatched to find him and return him to his home-world. Since his abandonment, Suguru was replaced by the pig (now named King Ton) Mayumi mistook him for. King Ton ruled over Planet Kinniku and Suguru was needed to defeat him. Suguru had no intention of leaving and even won a steel cage match needed to gamble his chance to stay or go. However, Meat eventually bribed him with a bowl of gyuudon to come with him. Unfortunately, when Suguru arrived, he was beaten by the pig and the only reason King Ton left was because his owner (a butcher) came back for him. Mayumi took the throne and because Suguru was such a disappointment, he was ordered to go back to Earth with Meat to mold him into a true hero.

Probably the most important event following his return to Earth was the meeting between Suguru and the Texan choujin Terryman. Terryman was confronted by Suguru and convinced to change his money-driven ways to become a justice choujin and join Suguru in the fight against evil. Because of this meeting, the two choujin would become inseparable (and sometimes unstoppable) in times of dire need.

20th Choujin Olympics/May the Best Man Win

Robin Mask
Robin Mask
One day, Mayumi suddenly appears to tell Suguru about an upcoming (and incredibly important) competition called the Choujin Olympics. Suguru, convinced that he is a shoo-in for the Japanese representative, is instead emotionally crushed when Terryman informs him that the Japanese commissioner refuses to allow anyone to compete since Ultraman was too mortified by his defeat at the hands of Englishman Robin Mask from last year. While in a depression, Suguru encounters Robin Mask. Robin puts him in a submission hold and tells him to give up, but Suguru outlasts him for several hours before Robin becomes tired and lets go. Haratobe Kinniku (no relation to the royal Kinniku family), the Japanese commissioner, was watching from a distance and decides to allow Suguru to compete.

Suguru was easily problematic while fighting in the preliminaries, but mostly because Kinkotsuman and Iwao were trying to sabotage him. However well their traps worked, the duo couldn't keep Suguru from winning enough matches to go to the finals. Suguru was placed with the brutal choujin in Block B and fought Curry Cook in a steel cage match. Curry Cook was too brutal in the match, however, and became frightened by Suguru's violent reaction to the point of forfeiting. His next match was an Ice Top Deathmatch with Ramenman from China. The Chinese representative dominated most of the fight and even caught Suguru in his patented (and deadly) Camel Clutch, which he used to rip the German representative Blockenman in half during an earlier match. (It is interesting to note that in the anime, Blockenman's fate was changed to being turned into ramen noodles by Ramenman and eaten by the China man). Suguru was so scared that he would be met with a similar fate to Blockenman that he soiled himself. Ramenman broke the hold to let Suguru change, but when Suguru returned Ramenman hit him with a piledriver. Suguru then became stuck in the ice by the fin on his mask and Ramenman kicked him into the ropes. On the rebound, however, Suguru smashed his elbow into Ramenman, knocking him out of the ring and into the commentators' table. Suguru won the match, but Kinkotsuman tried to assassinate him. Terryman saw this and tried to stop the villain, but took the bullet meant for his friend into his leg. Robin Mask won his match with Terryman rather easily because of this.

Terryman and Ramenman had a grudge match before Robin Mask and Suguru could fight and Ramenman was disqualified for dirty tactics, but before he disappeared backstage, he told Suguru to fight to the best of his abilities and to make Ramenman proud that he fought him. He gets rather emotional and even cries. Motivated by Ramenman's words, Suguru remarked that he was a brand-new fighter when the bell rang for his match with Robin. However, when Robin was overwhelmed by Suguru's abilities, he removed his armor. He said that he wore the armor to weaken himself instead of for protection. Suguru was then the one overwhelmed and tried to escape only to be met with Ramenman, Kinkotsuman, and Iwao who convinced him to go back and fight. Robin, undaunted, put Suguru in one of his finishing holds called the Tower Bridge. He heard a loud crack and threw Suguru's seemingly lifeless body into a corner of the ring, assuming that he broke the choujin's neck. As Robin regretted "killing" his foe, Suguru was revived by his Burning Inner Strength and held Robin in a Rolling Mexican Clutch Hold for a three count. Having little idea of what had happened, Ramenman remarks that he saw Suguru's Burning Inner Strength in action. The story closes with Suguru proudly displaying his championship belt to the ecstatic crowd.

Going to America/Prince Kamehame

Prince Kamehame
Prince Kamehame
His confidence bursting because of his victory against Robin Mask, Suguru went to fight in the United States. His first stop was in Hawaii, where he challenged the state champion Jesse Maivia to a match. Jesse agreed to fight him if he could defeat his manservant Prince Kamehame. Needless to say, Suguru lost. Kamehame, surprised that Suguru lasted for seven seconds, offered to teach him the 48 Killer Techniques. With these techniques, Suguru defeated Jesse Maivia, who was ironically the "master of Move Reversion."

His next opponent waited on the mainland, where he met up with a man named Doro Flairs and learned of the rivalry between the Choujin Wrestling League chairmen. In order to shake the foundation of cooperation between the American Choujin Council and Federation, Suguru pretended to be an African choujin named The Chanelman and attacked the Council's choujin during their fights. Skull Boze and his manager Sheik soon realized who Chanelman was and decided to set up a rematch between Suguru and Robin, but with a twist. Even though Robin desperately wanted revenge on Suguru for humiliating him in the Choujin Olympics, the match had to be held in the middle of the Grand Canyon and the ring had to be supported by four cords from each turnbuckle. When Suguru was almost about to win the match, Skull-Boze and Sheik had scheduled Kinkotsuman and Iwao to crash a plane into the ring. Robin fell out of the ring and apparently to his demise, causing Suguru to try and attack Skull-Boze and his accomplices out of rage. But the president of the Choujin League, God von Elrich, appeared between the two forces and said that the rivalries among the Choujin League would all be settled in a tag team tournament.

Suguru went to Texas, remembering about Terryman and his prominence as a choujin. Terryman had the leg shot by Kinkotsuman replaced with a prosthetic one and thus, perhaps the most formidable team in the entire franchise - The Machineguns - was born. Their first match was against Beauty Rhodes and Jean Steamboat, who they fought to a standstill, and their second match was against Kinkotsuman and Iwao, who they defeated. Their third match was against Skull-Boze and a French street performer-turned choujin named Devil Magician. Perhaps the bloodiest match then, Suguru and Terryman defeated Skull-Boze and Devil Magician with a twin version of Terryman's Calf Branding attack. However, Suguru was told of a monster attacking Tokyo and had to get there and back in thirty minutes if he wanted to keep the title and save the city. In the end, Suguru decided to relinquish the title in order to save his home.

The Love Interest...

On New Year's Day, Suguru and Meat had a reunion with Suguru's parents. While they were visiting, the leader of the Horumon Clan (the rivals of the Kinniku Clan) ordered his daughter Bibinba to kill Suguru. She tried once, but missed and scraped her knee. Suguru, oblivious to the attempt on his life, bandaged her wound and left her to her business. This act of kindness made Bibinba incapable of killing Suguru and she slowly fell in love with him. Horumon, infuriated, told a man named Shishkaba Boo that if he could kill Suguru, he will be wed to Bibinba. He almost realized Horumon's twisted desire, but upon seeing Bibinba's emotions toward Suguru, Boo allowed Suguru to live and to return to Earth with Bibinba.

Proving overbearing in her attempts to serve Suguru, Bibinba was crushed to find out that Suguru had Meat doing pretty much everything for him already. Because of this, Bibinba ran away to join the Tanokin Trio, a group who provided Japan with services of heroism in times of Suguru's absence. Soon after this, a creature named Beanman asked Suguru to come to Planet Rakka along with Terryman, Ramenman, Brocken Jr., Crystalman, and Puyopuyo to fight off space samurai.

21st Choujin Olympics/"The Big Fight"

Warsman, the Fighting Computer
Warsman, the Fighting Computer
Suguru became part of the championship tournament that involved perhaps the most important people he would meet. Wolfman, his semifinalist opponent, almost defeated him with a flurry of slaps and attacks similar to a sumo wrestler. Indeed, the only reason Suguru won against Wolfman was because he managed to reverse one of the man's many attacks. Ramenman was less fortunate with his semifinalist opponent, who turned out to be Blockenman's son who entered the tournament to take revenge on Ramenman for killing his father during the past year. After nearly paralyzing Ramenman with a piledriver that left the China man literally stuck in the concrete ring floor, Brocken gave up his chance to fight against Warsman in the semifinals because he thought his duty to avenge his father was done with. Ramenman ended up fighting Warsman in a steel cage match.

In the following brawl, Ramenman was left open to brutal attacks with Warsman unleashing his claws and almost ripping Ramenman to shreads. Ramenman managed to defend himself with the bell from the commentators' table, but Warsman broke through it by drilling a hole into Ramenman's head with his claws. Ramenman would remain a braindead vegetable until a character named Mongolman emerged later in the story.

The cyborg's true face
The cyborg's true face
The match that would become known as "The Big Fight" was between Suguru and Warsman, who was being coached by a mysterious man named Barracuda. The match lasted from mid-afternoon into a stormy night, and Suguru managed to win only because Warsman's fighting computer wore out after a bloody thirty minutes and caused him to overheat. Suguru hit Warsman with the Kinniku Buster and won the Choujin Olympics for the second time in a row. Warsman stood up, however, and congratulated Suguru for his win. He remarked that he never met someone with as much zeal and drive to win as Suguru and removed his mask, revealing his cybernetic face for the first time since his childhood. Barracuda, humbled, also revealed himself to be Robin Mask and decided to become a justice choujin along with his pupil and his rival.

Seven Devil Choujin/Buffaloman's Evil Power

Buffaloman, 10,000,000 power choujin!
Buffaloman, 10,000,000 power choujin!
Suguru, his fame growing, soon attracted the attention of seven incredibly powerful demon choujin led by the insanely-strong Buffaloman. Buffaloman led Springman, Atlantis, SteCassette King, Black Hole, Mr. Kamen, and The Mountain into battle against Warsman, Wolfman, Robin Mask, Suguru, Brocken Jr., and Terryman in matches specifically suited to support what the demon choujin wanted. Buffaloman faced Warsman in a regular ring, which he won after impaling the cyborg in one of his horns and using the fatal Choujin Cross Slam to nearly kill him. Springman literally tore Wolfman to pieces by using his body as a prison and repeatedly dropping Wolfman from increasing altitudes. Atlantis won his match above a lake with Robin Mask, using the Atlantis Drop to pound Robin Mask with while underwater (he held up Robin's helmet from underwater, so it is assumed that he killed Robin). As an extra bribe to ensure Suguru's participation in fighting them, the Devil Choujin kidnapped Alexandria Meat and split his body into several pieces.

Suguru had perhaps the best luck with his matches with SteCassette King (who he defeated with the Kinniku Buster) and Black Hole. SteCassette King was able to mimic anyone's techniques as long as he had a cassette tape of their moveset. He had an outdated Suguru tape and wasn't able to keep up with the hero's increased bravery. Black Hole had access to a pocket dimension within his own body and imprisoned Suguru within it. But Suguru farted in a crack in the dimension and broke Black Hole's access to it for a few moments, allowing him to use a charging elbow attack and pin the villain.

Brocken Jr. was about to be killed by Mr. Khamen, but was instead saved by a mysterious hooded figure that vaguely resembled Ramenman. The mystery choujin then defeated Mr. Khamen and revealed himself to be Mongolman, a new competitor. Terryman managed to defeat The Mountain, but only after sustaining severe injuries that kept him from competing anymore.

Suguru was the only one left and relied on his abilities to defeat Atlantis with a Kinniku Buster. The following match was between Suguru and Mongolman with Buffaloman and Springman as the final opposition. It was to be a double match with Mongolman against Springman first. After a decent brawl, Mongolman manipulated a cloud of his own sweat and made Springman rust. The demon choujin was defeated before Mongolman could be split apart like Wolfman had been. Tired, Mongolman wished Suguru luck. The final match was Suguru against Buffaloman.

Buffaloman worked Suguru over, using his powers to the point of revealing a cloud of evil energy on his chest belonging to Satan. Buffaloman became possessed for a short while and Suguru was beaten even worse. Buffaloman even reversed the Kinniku Buster, using the famous "6 to 9" method. Suguru was about to be defeated, but Buffaloman regained control of his body and was himself eventually defeated when he absorbed some of Suguru's Burning Inner Strength and overdosed on choujin power. Dying, he saw the bonds of friendship Suguru and the justice choujin had for each other and vowed to become one of them if he survived the punishment waiting for him because of his sins. Meat was put back together and everything was back to normal...for the time being.

The Menace of Akuma Shogun!

Time passed, but the threat of imminent danger did not. A crisis unfolded on Planet Kinniku when the Golden Mask was stolen! The remains of the brother god of war were sacred relics handed down through the Kinniku Clan within a vessel called the Golden Mask. And now it had disappeared, with no clues on who to blame! Unfortunately, the Mask did not turn up in the hands of mere theives. Instead, it appeared on each face of a team of rogue demon choujin who served a creature known as Akuma Shogun. The justice choujin were called to investigate, but upon their arrival, they were met with challenges from each of the demon choujin. Sneagator, a monstrous reptilian creature with the ability to change shape, fought Suguru first.

The menacing...T-Rex foot?
The menacing...T-Rex foot?
Suguru had trouble with the cretin, even while Sneagator was transformed into a giant sneaker. But Suguru beat the monster into his true form: a Tyrannosaurus foot. Initially having a comical response, Suguru suddenly realized the power of Sneagator's new form when the monster grabbed him and started banging him on each of the surrounding walls like a drumstick to a precussion instrument. Suguru, however, defeated Sneagator with his trusty Kinniku Buster. He discovered that these demon choujin had masks hidden under their faces that resembled the sacred Golden Mask, but Sneagator's was a fake. Suguru realized this before dying from his wounds. Wolfman would revive Suguru using his own life as a substitute. Suguru then fought the devious Planetman, who staged their fight in an amusement park...from hell.

Suguru learned firsthand how powerful his new opponents were when Planetman, based on the nine planets in our solar system, thrashed him around like a schoolyard sissy. Planetman even employed such tactics as splitting his body apart and crushing Suguru within all of the pieces or ramming his back at the speed of a bullet train, literally only stopping when the moon was (luckily) in the way. Suguru managed to fight back somehow, but Planetman only revealed his true identity (hiding behind a mask modeled after Earth) to be the mysterious planet Vulcan. Planetman then made the faces of people Suguru knew and loved appear all over his body, mystically connecting them all to their respective bodies. Planetman had Suguru's mom over his heart, knowing the hero would not dare kill him with her in the way. Suguru realized that a Kinniku Buster would not harm his loved ones, only Planetman, and he caused the villain's mask to molt yet again, exposing the Golden Mask. However, before Planetman could kill Suguru with a final flurry of attacks, Warsman managed to force himself in front of the villain's heart, yelling at Suguru that he would gladly sacrifice himself. Suguru oblidged and Planetman was defeated and his mask crumbled to dust. It was another fake.

Meanwhile, an epic battle was being staged inside a comatose Warsman's body between two teams of four choujin each. Robin Mask (revived by Buffaloman's power), Brocken Jr., Terryman and a newcomer from America named Geronimo were fighting Junkman, The Ninja, Ashuraman, and the gargantuan Sunshine, respectively. Suguru managed to get inside Warsman's body as well to cheer his friends on. Terryman defeated Ashuraman (whose special ability was to steal his opponent's arms for himself, leaving them virtually defenseless) with a Calf Branding after Buffaloman lent him the use of his own arms. Robin Mask defeated Junkman with his Tower Bridge attack. Brocken Jr. tied with The Ninja, but it was a grueling match. Finally, Geronimo (although his soul left his body on one occasion) defeated Sunshine with his Apache Yell. All of the Golden Masks the demon choujin held were fake, so the search was abandoned. But, the bodies of the demon choujin stirred. From all over, their remains piled together into a monstrous new entity. A laugh, and the true villain appeared. The ringleader of the demon choujin threw back his cape and said his name, "Akuma Shogun."

Ka~KaKaKa!
Ka~KaKaKa!
Akuma Shogun and Ashuraman made their escape as the ring in Warsman's body began to collapse. The justice choujin were trapped, but were rescued when Warsman began to cry. Suguru and his allies were flushed out of Warsman's body and fell at the feet of the new terror. Ashuraman grabbed an injured Warsman and tried to kill him with the Ashura Buster, but Suguru stopped him. Ashuraman wanted to make his master see his worth and took it upon himself to "test" Suguru's fighting skills. After a grueling match on top of a mountain, Ashuraman lost. Pleading for mercy in his failures at his master's feet, Ashuraman was met with a stiff wall of indifference as Akuma Shogun murdered his own servant (in the manga, Akuma Shogun forced Ashuraman to commit suicide). Akuma challenged Suguru to a fight, but Suguru had no techniques with which to truely defeat him. Buffaloman intervened and said that he would fight Akuma Shogun in Suguru's place, thus buying him enough time to learn the Kinniku Driver. Suguru ran away to learn this technique while Buffaloman merely held off Akuma Shogun's power. And sure enough, at the end of Buffaloman's ability to endure any longer, Suguru appeared with the knowledge of how to use the Kinniku Driver fresh on his mind. Buffaloman told Suguru Akuma Shogun's one spot on his body that he hit with any reaction from the beast: the crown of his head. Suguru prepared for the worst a long time ago and he boldly set foot into the ring with a madman.

The god is exposed!
The god is exposed!
Never give up!!!
Never give up!!!
The demon choujin dominated parts of the fight and Suguru dominated those he did not. They went blow-for-blow, knocking each other down and grappling only to break out into a powerful flurry of attacks and throws. However, Akuma Shogun was merely toying with the justice choujin. He absorbed the power of his demon choujin knights and unleashed the Hell's Nine Point Seal and it seemed that Suguru was doomed as the Hell's Guillotine neared its point of connection. However, Kinnikuman reversed the attack and plowed Akuma Shogun's head into the mat with the Kinniku Driver. He was still suspicious of what the villain could do and backed away. His skepticism was correct in its origins and Akuma Shogun stood erect, his body twisted in pain. His armor began to chip away and he was revealed to be not only the true thief of the sacred Golden Mask, but the Golden Mask itself! The brother gods of war and peace were reunited through Akuma Shogun and Kinnikuman, with Suguru losing control of the Silver Mask and having it grow all over his face. Akuma Shogun became infuriated by his brother's "interference" and nearly killed Kinnikuman. But Suguru used his Burning Inner Strength to knock Akuma Shogun skyward and hit him with a second Kinniku Driver, burying the threat for the time being. Goldman and Silverman made amends after Goldman, hidden underneath Akuma Shogun, was returned to normal and the two masks combined to form the Perfect Mask, bringing those justice choujin who died in the great battle back to life and setting everything back to the way it was.

Dream Tag Team/Kinnikuman Great

The Muscle Brothers!
The Muscle Brothers!
Soon, the Dream Tag Team tournament began. Teams of choujin from across the globe came to compete and it was only natural to assume Suguru and his friends would fight as well. However, Suguru was without a partner. Terryman joined forces with Geronimo, Robin Mask and Warsman formed a team, Buffaloman and Mongolman would fight together, and even Brocken Jr. had a partner in Wolfman. Out of options, Suguru wandered out of the registration office. However, he had an unexpected meeting with Prince Kamehame, who wanted to compete as well and didn't have a partner either. The two joined forces, but Prince Kamehame wasn't allowed in the competition because of his age. He put on a mask, became Kinnikuman Great, and the Muscle Brothers were born.

Their first match was against the five-dimensional manipulating duo of the American choujin Pentagon and his cousin Black Hole, who Kinnikuman recognized from their previous encounter together. Black Hole vowed to make Suguru suffer for humiliating him as the ring bell echoed in the distance. Kinnikuman Great fought Black Hole and it seemed that he was going to win out of his superior fighting skills. However, Pentagon revealed his special ability to turn the star on his mask like a dial and manipulate time and space for a short while. In other words, one moment Kinnikuman Great could be about to slam Black Hole into the mat, but when Pentagron turned the star on his mask, Black Hole would suddenly appear in Kinnikuman Great's place, slamming him into the mat instead! This applied to when Pentagon was in the ring and he would switch places with his opponent, whether it was Suguru or Kinnikuman Great, at will. It seemed a doomed escapade when Kinnikuman Great was swallowed into Black Hole's personal pocket dimension, but there he hatched the plan to use the Muscle Docking combo technique with Suguru. He leaped out of Black Hole's body and caught Pentagon in a Kinniku Buster, sitting on Suguru's shoulders as he put Black Hole in the Kinniku Driver. Black Hole's shoulders hit the mat and the tower of Kinniku power came crashing onto the back of his head, compacting him and his cousin. The Muscle Brothers advanced.

The Muscle Brothers came against the combined might of two resurrected demon choujin: Sunshine and Ashuraman, who had stolen the justice choujin's friendship power and made them weaker than usual. The Muscle Brothers had difficulty fighting them at first, but then Ashuraman broke down into tears and exclaimed that no one understood demon choujin and how they had friends too. The Perfect Choujin Screw Kid, fresh from defeating Wolfman and Brocken Jr. with his tag partner Kendaman, choked on laughter and mocked Ashuraman for being weak with emotion before leaving to fight Buffaloman and Mongolman in a grudge match in a glass cube. Ashuraman and Sunshine reverted back to their evil selves and attacked the Muscle Brothers once more, but they were defeated by the Muscle Docking combo technique. Shortly after the match ended, Kinnikuman Great retreated backstage carried by Terryman. Kinnikuman Great removed his mask and revealed his true identity to Terryman, saying that Terryman was just the man to carry on the Kinnikuman Great mask. Kamehame gave Terryman, who was fresh from a defeat at the hands of Ashuraman and Sunshine, the Kinnikuman Great mask and died. Terryman wept, but recovered himself and put the mask on, gaining the abilities of Kinnikuman Great.

The Hell Missionaries
The Hell Missionaries
The Perfect Choujin Combo, Screw Kid and Kendaman, were killed after their loss against Buffaloman and Mongolman by two other Perfect Choujin named Neptuneman and Mildman. Kendaman ran for his life, but was put in the Quarrel Special lock by Neptuneman and reduced to ashes. Screw Kid was bolder and attacked Mildman, but was vaporized. Mildman's armor crumbled and he was revealed to be the monstrous Big the Budo. Neptuneman challenged the justice choujin in order to see who could defeat him in the tournament before the army of Perfect Choujin invaded Earth and he taunted Robin Mask by throwing a tuft of Kendaman's remains in his face. Suguru would have to wait through agonizing moments of watching his friends suffer at the hands of the Perfect Choujin, who called their tag team the Hell Missionaries.

Muscle Docking!!
Muscle Docking!!
Before the final match was staged, Neptuneman and Big the Budo demonstrated their overpowering control over the Magnet Power of the Earth by lifting a crane and shattering it with their fearsome Cross Bomber combo technique. The Muscle Brothers were pitted against them in a Sword-Edge Death Match, a match which involved razor-sharp swords being layered around the ring and making ring-outs fatal. Neptuneman and Big the Budo dominated the match, using their Magnet Power to full advantage and beating Terryman's disguise off his body. The first round of fighting went to the Hell Missionaries when Suguru was too distracted by Terryman's deception to fight at full strength. Then, the real brawl began. Kinnikuman realized that the Hell Missionaries' only weakness was to shut off the source of their power. With his arm fashioned into a key using raw material and debris flying in the air, he flew to the Earth's core and closed Neptuneman's and Big the Budo's access to the Magnet Power. Big the Budo, his mask gone and his true identity of Neptune King revealed by a double Kinniku Buster, became desperate without his Magnet Power and used the swords from outside the ring. Neptuneman was disgusted by his master's defiance of Perfect Choujin law and purposely refused to fight with him anymore. Suguru and Terryman then put the Hell Missionaries in the Muscle Docking attack and defeated them. Neptuneman, with Neptune King dead, flew up into the sky to tell Neptune King's army of Perfect Choujin to retreat by self-destructing.

The Five Fated Princes

Scramble for the Throne!!
Scramble for the Throne!!
Finally, after all his hard work and determination, Suguru was going to be given the throne of Planet Kinniku! His father and mother greeted him at the foot of the seat of illustrious power passed down through their family, and as Suguru was about to sit down...disaster struck. Five insanely powerful choujin interrupted the ceremony, each saying that they were the right heir to the throne. They explained, in detail, about their origins and how the wing of the hospital they and Kinnikuman were in burst into flame and how the confusion may have mixed up the heir to the throne. Mayumi and Sayuri, both very concerned and flustered, decided to hold a tournament to literally let the strongest heir survive. So, the Five Fated Princes each had their chance to kill Suguru. But Suguru wasn't going in alone. He gathered his closest friends in Ramenman, Robin Mask, Terryman, and Warsman and went boldly into battle. Ataru Kinniku, Suguru's brother disguised as Kinnikuman Soldier, revealed his alliance to the Kinniku royal family and gathered Buffaloman, Ashuraman, The Ninja, and Brocken Jr. to be his team. This was the beginning of a very different Suguru.

He saw his friends sacrifice and tear themselves apart fighting their terrible new foes and suffered great pain and anguish himself. He fought the terrible Mixer Taite, of Kinnikuman Mariposa's deadly team, and was utterly defeated when Taite was enforced with the powers of the Five Evil Gods who empowered the Five Fated Princes with ridiculous choujin power. Warsman saved Kinnikuman's soul from eternal torment, but Kinnikuman was unable to fight. He made up for his mistakes of underestimating his foes in the next matches with Kinnikuman Zebra's team. Kinnikuman fought Zebra and would have been killed if not for the spontaneous realization that he could use the Muscle Spark - an incomplete version, but nonetheless incredibly powerful. Zebra was taken out on a stretcher, but was incinerated by Super Phoenix's teammate Prisman (this was left out of the anime).

Next, Kinnikuman fought Omegaman when his team (now consisting of Geronimo, The Samurai, Robin Mask, and himself) fought Omegaman, Mammothman, and Super Phoenix. The Samurai was more or less for inspirational purposes, but once Kinnikuman began to falter, he revealed himself to be Neptuneman and went medieval on Omegaman with Kinnikuman acting as a tag team partner of sorts. Together, they defeated Omegaman and the cyborg choujin apologized for his past actions before being deactivated by Super Phoenix. Imprisoned and alone, facing impossible odds in the wake of the deaths of Geronimo and Robin Mask, Kinnikuman prepared for his final match - the one that would decided the fate of Planet Kinniku. Bibinba was even at stake, as were the lives of his parents. Super Phoenix promised to wipe out the Kinniku Clan and make a new royal family with Bibinba if Kinnikuman lost. Everything was on the line.

Together, they locked up and put the other in submission holds, trying and testing the limits of their bodies. They spent seconds in the air - but it must have felt like an eternity - as they fell to the ground reversing each other's grapples and special techniques. It seemed Kinnikuman had a slight margine of victory against such an overwhelming foe. But that was before the Five Evil Gods invaded Phoenix's mind and turned him into a monster, a behemoth of unimaginable choujin power. Kinnikuman was a mere toy to him from that point-on. Tossed helplessly aside to and fro, he was subject to two of Phoenix's most lethal attacks: Ox Tether and the Muscle Revenger. The Ox Tether agitated the tears in Kinnikuman's heart from all his past battles, threatening to burst it like a balloon, while the Muscle Revenger nearly crushed every bone in his body. Bleeding, dying, and on the brink of losing all he loved, there was only one thing he could do...tap into the Burning Inner Strength, the legendary power that carried him through to great victories. At the last second, that power was reached, and the Muscle Spark perfected. The Evil Gods left Phoenix's destroyed body, but were imprisoned by the other choujin gods as they descended to congratulate Kinnikuman. He was given the crown of his people, and with a Face Flash - the holiest of techniques available to the Kinniku Clan - he restored all of the fighters who were killed during the tournament, even his enemies who were now friends. Phoenix was even given a place among the pantheon of choujin, and was restored to a form he was too obsessed with revenge to know. With all the chaos brought to a close, there was only one thing left to do...
