Investigating a "Bermuda triangle" effect in the Pacific, the damaged submarine 707 is led to a vast undersea cavern by a white whale. 707 rests on the seabed for repairs but sinks beneath it to find the lost undersea empire of Mu (see Super Atragon). Queen Chiaka, ruler of Mu, has been thrown into a conflict with the surface world by bad-guy Red Silver's illegal drilling operations near her kingdom, and the crew of 707 must end the crisis before it destroys the world. An old-fashioned yarn based on Satoru Ozawa's 1963 submarine manga in Shonen Sunday, it was revived for the 1990s thanks to the dual influence of the nostalgic "retro" fashion ushered in by Giant Robo and the new-found popularity of submarine dramas post-Silent Service. A year later, Ozawa's Blue Submarine No. Six was also adapted into an anime, with far greater success.
