Studio Hibari was founded in 1979; its first work was Ojamanga Yamada-kun, assisting Nihon Herald Pictures. The company's first full production was Sasuga no Sarutobi, a 1982 ninja comedy. The company has also assisted on Studio Ghibli films like Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
