Are we SURE he's not going to eat those children?
Are we SURE he's not going to eat those children?
Credit to this one goes to ScottFrye on Twitter, who asked if Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, and Laputa: Castle in the Sky were getting DVD re-releases. I took a quick peek on Amazon.com and it looks like the answer is: "yes!" (For the record, it turns out he found them on Right Stuf's recent changes page, even though I got my info from Amazon-- just to ensure proper credit all around.)

 Laputa
 Laputa
Each film comes as a 2-disc special edition set, and the second DVD is full of special features. Those features are, generally speaking, "The World of Ghibli - An Extraordinary Interactive Experience," an "Enter the Lands" feature that goes into the characters and story of each movie, a Behind the Studio collection of new interviews and documentary footage for each specific film, and a storyboard presentation as well. Kiki's Delivery Service and Laputa both also feature introductions from Disney Chief Creative Officer (and Miyazaki pal) John Lasseter himself, although the same is not listed for Totoro.

All three come out on March 2nd, 2010, the same day that Ponyo will be released (also in a two-disc package, whether you go DVD or Blu-Ray), with a $29.99 MSRP. Which begs the question: which one(s) do you plan to buy? And if you could only buy ONE...which would it be?

And which Ghibli movie that is NOT on this list would you like to get a special edition DVD of? (I'm thinkin' Howl's.)

Ponyo's release in the UK (and likely other european countries) is effed up.
it's not out here until february 2010. February 2010!!!! that's taking the piss.
the anime and manga business the the UK is a sham. i could make a better structure for promoting and distributing the stuff with just a piece of string, half chewed gum and a paperclip.

No Princess Mononoke special edition DVD (or blu-ray)?

They skipped Omohide Poroporo too. Boo-hoo. I can have more über-sweet Totoro as consolation prize, which isn't bad.

Sweet i didn't know Macgyver liked anime! Since your done with a leading role in Stargate what are you going to be doing next Mr. Anderson? Is the Macgyver movie really getting made?

@crusader8463: yes, yes we are. it is a Stargate-SG1/Macgyver crossover.

Even though you're basically advertising a crappy, probably virus-filled site I have to give you credit for how well you put it in there instead of just throwing it in our face like most spammers. Good one and flagged.

On topic, I might buy Totoro when I have money. I'm not interested in watching Laputa and I didn't like Kiki all that much.

@damswedon: ...February 2010 is before it comes out here in the US, if it makes you feel any better? We get it March 2 2010. :)

If I had to pick one, it'd definitely be Kiki's Delivery Service. Loved that movie, so such a scenario of me picking one is quite likely

@gia: i would if it wasn't for the fact that February 2010 is the release date for the Cinema. i would be happy with a straight to DVD release if it meant i could actually see the bloody thing.
