Now I should say for the record I did actually want my two guests from this and last week on at the same time to discuss their journeys in Japan on a single episode but each had so much to offer I decided to split this into two separate podcasts and it’s certainly clear to me after this episode…..that was a damn good idea

Most of y’all know I have been waiting a good LONG TIME to have M Habib Rahman on the podcast in general, well today he is going to share his experience with us on HIS trip to Japan which for the record is not quite the same adventure as Kimono-Joe’s from our last episode.

As you’ll soon find out Habib is a BEAST on the mic and on this ep he gives us an extremely comprehensive look at his dealings in Japan. LOL I really could have called this episode “OTAKU UNLEASHED” cuz this dude really went all out…..I find myself jealous just listening to Hab go on about such things as

The Tokyo Game Show, Maid Cafes, Akihabara, Mandarake, Muv-Luv, Otaku Shopping, The Resident Evil Bar, The Gundam Bar, The Capcom Bar, Star driver, More shrineing / sightseeing and a WHOLE LOT MORE…..including some quick chatter on the FATE franchise near the end of the cast.

I implore you guys to check out these AWESOME blog write ups by Nick Tapalansky of which cover EVEN MORE ground on travelling to Japan…AWESOMENESS

Real Japanese Cuisine for the Traveling Anime Fan

A Photologue of Nerdy Japan!

It's Not So Fun to be an American Otaku in Japan?

Golly, between this episode, the previous episode and the before-mentioned blog write ups how can anyone not want to check out Japan… be you Otaku or otherwise.

Personally I’m revved up to go to Japan myself

Thanks again to my guest’s – M Habib Rahman & Kimono Joe for the insights.

And that’s all folks…next time…business as usual

I’m Out…One love…Peace….and….Sayonara!

A short post every Sunday, 9pm (I hope!) summarizing what I've watched in the past 7 days. Notable episodes this week have a (*) beside the episode number.

This week there was no Madoka either. Wandering Son's schedule was not affected by the earthquake, and Star Driver came back after a 1 week break, so this week I'll cover Star Driver 23, 24 and the rest of Wandering Son. Some minor spoilers inside for Star Driver which I don't think would really affect your enjoyment of the series anyway.

Star Driver 23

The twist at the end was kind of expected, but nevertheless it was awesome to see the... umm... flashy costume and the reaction of all the other Kiraboshi members. Although it was never really mentioned earlier in the series, the revelation of Takuto's dad was quite well executed. What wasn't well executed was how Takuto seemed to recognise him straight away with no hint of suspicion or surprise. He just jumped over and gave him a punch without any build up. Well, that's kind of his personality anyway I guess =/

Star Driver 24

Had a weird ending, but the build up really makes me look forward to the next episode. This episode did a few flashbacks and explained some of the character's motivations, but we're still in the dark about why Sugata  defected. Many other questions are still left unanswered (such as the school's 2 "aliens"), and we only have one episode left! I seriously have no idea how I'm going to rate the series. It has to pull off something really special for the last episode...

Wandering Son 9 (*)

You'll never expect a slice-of-life drama series like this to be able to build up tension like this. I would say this episode ranks up there in building up to a "boss battle" as Star Driver did, but with more consistency. When I first watched this episode, I was so impressed by its pacing and felt that they only needed the next episode to bring things up to a climax and the wrap it up the following episode. I was wrong....

Wandering Son 10+11 (**)

... but in a good way. The creators did something... weird by squeezing episodes 10 and 11 into one episode and then doing an additional episode 12 the next week. This is actually bucking the trend of production companies making their final episode only available on DVD, forcing you to buy it. Also, this gives the creator one extra episode to conclude the story! This episode 10+11 actually felt like 4 episode squeezed into one. They edited it in a way that doesn't feel too rushed in the important moments, but also manage to put in A LOT of plot. It was a simply amazing episode, a great example of how a fast-paced slice-of-life episode can be so engaging and interesting.

Wandering Son 12 (?)

There were many many great moments in this finale of Wandering Son. The production team has done a great job at choosing the right arcs of the manga to animate. I think psgels (over at Star Crossed Anime Blog) summed it up quite well regarding the production and characters. I'll be writing up my own review soon (probably in a week or two), so look out for that!

Sorry for the short impressions this week. Been really busy IRL... Anyway, on a brighter note...

The new season is here! I still haven't decide whether I should do impressions for every new series (almost no show continuing into the next season, so there are lot of new ones). Also, reviews for this season will most probably be sparse, since I can only properly review Star Driver and Wandering Son (Madoka is STILL on hiatus). I plan to go back and watch some of the other series I missed out though, so expect more reviews once my exams are over.

I have one word that best describe this first episode: Fabulous!
Fabulous Plot: Story start out with our main man Takuto Tsunashi, who wash ashore and found by Sugata Shindou and Wako Agemaki. From there we found out that Tsunashi had reason for coming to this island (BTW he swim to the island instead of taking a boat, idiot) as he is in search for his father. Meanwhile, a mysterious organization known as "Kirahoshi Juujidan" are planning on kidnapping the madiens of the island which one of them happens to be Agemaki. And from there its pretty much main character is a legendary galactic pretty boy (Yes, that what Tsunashi title is) who’s out to save the damsel in distress, expect that Mr galactic pretty boy has always been that way so it'll be interesting at how this came to be when we dive right in to his character a little more. This set up works very well with a nice pacing of introducing characters that we begin to like and this world that we're in. Humor is very much Bones with characters going chibi and over reacting with smart timing witht he jokes and lines.
Fabulous Characters: While it is too soon to judge the characters, their first impressions are good enough to like them already. Tsunashi may seem like the usually silly lead male with his example of swimming to the island but he wants to enjoy his life, explore, socialize with others, he has a possible past that can be go deeper in to, and with his fight with the giant bull Mech shows that he got skills. Wako Agemaki still need more development besides that fact that she is a important figure to the island and Sugata Shindou, while from royalty, is a nice guy and wants to control his life (Comment he made when he said that his family wants him to marry Agemaki as it is his family's tradition,  but he said that "We should be free to follow our love").

Fabulous visuals: The look of this anime is topnotch. Bone is continuing their great animation work here with good character designs, amazing scenery, and breathtaking colors. Designs of the Mechs (or Cybuddy) may look ridiculous but they move so well including in the large over the top fight scenes with well done fight choreography.
This series has already proven itself that it can go far and I will continue to follow its journey to the top.

 This is just too Fabulous!
