• Kakashi reveals this episode that Yamato's real name could possible be Tenzo.
• The symbol on the back of Shikamaru's shirt is the mark of the Nara Clan.
• The scene with Sai was not present in the manga version of this story.
• In this episode, Shizune expresses concern about having fewer jonin in the village in case of an attack. This contradicts that Asuma and Shikamaru were already planning on leaving on their next mission soon. This portion of the episode is building for the filler arc that continues the story.
• In the manga version, Sakura and Sai never appeared during Naruto's training.
