American Football

Sometimes called Ameriball around the world, American Football is a sport played by teams on a 100 yard field with an oval ball. In Anime it was made famous in the series Eyeshield 21

Baseball

Baseball is a field sport played between two teams. The sport is very popular in the United States, Japan, and elsewhere throughout the world. It has also been a popular theme in anime and manga for more than 50 years.

Basketball

A sport where teams of five attempt to sink an orange ball into a hoop. It is a western sport in origin but is popular in Anime as well.

Champion.

A person who is the best at a sport/tournament/contest etc.

Cheerleader

A person who stands on the sidelines of a sporting event and cheers on the team.

Coach

The leader and trainer of a sports team. Very important rolls in Sports Series.

Deimon Devil Bats

The American Football team in the anime and manga Eyeshield 21. It is comprised of a group of unlikely teammates who all come together for one reason or another with the goal of making it to the Christmas Bowl.

Japanese Archery

Japanese Archery (kyudo) is the Japanese practice of archery. It is a sport/martial art that is practiced as part of sports and competitions.

Kart Racing

A racing type in which go-karts compete in. Various anime shows and manga use this type. The Mario Kart series is a great example in this type.

Kendo

Kendo translates to "Way of the Sword". It is a sword competition using bamboo swords called a shinai. It is a popular martial arts practice in Japan.

Martial Arts

Seen in just about every form of anime at least at one point. The key component that makes Shounen popular among boys. As well as Ancient art in itself

Motorball

A sport featured in the Battle Angel (Gunnm) series. Motorball is the favorite pastime of the citizens of the Scrapyard, which is a hyperviolent cross between Roman gladiators and speed skating.

Ping-Pong

A sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight, hollow ball back and forth using table tennis rackets.

Racing

A series of contests that tests the speed. Some of them include kart racing, Street Racing, NASCAR and many more.

Rivals

Rivals are competitor to someone. Unlike an enemy, rivals could have similar goals but disagree on the process.

Soccer

Commonly known as football. Soccer is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. It is one the world's most popular sport. Inazuma Eleven is a great example.

Sports Day

Japans equivalent to a field day.

Street Racing

Whether you gotta get somewhere fast or prove your the best, racing on the streets is bound to get you where you wanna go fast. Just be sure to check your blind spots.

Sumo

A Japanese sport and a form of wrestling with a very rich and noble tradition.

Taiyo Sphinx

A football team in Eyeshield 21. They reside on the beach giving all their students dark tans and they follow an Egyptian theme, going as far as to have their school shaped like pyramids.

Tournament

A battle between participants to see who is the strongest. It usually involves brackets and moving up the line, but it can also be in other formats such as a "survival of the fittest" format.

Volleyball

A Olympic team sport played on a beach or indoor court in which two teams of six players are separated by a net and each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court.

Wrestling

Known as Puroresu in Japan which is a mode of spectacle, combining athletics and theatrical performance.
