A merchant comes across a wolf goddess one evening and agrees to accompany her to her homeland in the north.
Craft Lawrence is a traveling merchant who wanders from town to town buying and then selling, ideally to make a profit. After returning to one town he learns that they're conducting their festival in celebration of a wolf goddess who is said to help their harvests, although the villagers grumble that she hasn't done so lately if she exists at all; they seem inclined to convert to the new religion that has taken hold of the region. Lawrence moves on later that night, only to find a stowaway in his card: a woman with wolf ears and a tail. Horo, the wolf goddess. Horo reveals that she is tired of being unappreciated by the villagers, who don't realize that if she gave them a bumper crop every year then it would kill the soil, and that she wishes to return to her homeland in the north. She also wishes to see how the world has changed in the hundreds of years she's lived in the village. The two strike a deal and make their way, with Horo's wisdom guiding Lawrence's deals, although her existence as a wolf-goddess draws unwanted attention from the church, whose power continues to grow.-
