Boy, first a trailer, now a poster-- this Yamato thing is almost like a real movie, isn't it?

Kidding. Of course it's a real movie, and it's going to be released this December. Actually, in that case, it feels a little early to have all of this, but then again, this is surely going to be pretty FX-heavy, which means that there's still surely plenty of work to be done.
So, how many of you guys actually remember any Yamato/Starblazers? I watched a tiiiiiiiiny bit as a kid (I can remember renting the VHS at my local The Warehouse-- if any of you remember THOSE stores, either). But most of the readers here are my age or younger, so I don't know how many of you would have missed it entirely. Anyone care to enlighten me?

The feeling of nostalgia is really the driving force behind my fervor at this point. As I kid I remember "wanting" the VHS's, so now that I am an adult with a wallet and decision making prowess, a serious/modern update seems great. As the movie will be new and different, so will its audience, which will probably be a majority of people who haven't seen the original

I watched Star Blazers on TV as a kid so I'm really looking forward to this movie. I'm an old guy (43) so the nostalgia is strong here...

No facial hair standards in the future of navy!  HOORAH!
I fall into the category of having heard of it before, but unwilling to find those VHS tapes.  I am most definitely intrigued by this.

Actually, all 3 seasons of Star Blazers are available on DVD in the US (as in the disks are in print). Unfortunately, one season of the show will cost you more than all 3 seasons of Robotech on DVD. :-(

The cinematography reminds me a lot of the Galactica reboot.  Pretty much a good thing, hopefully the movie holds up, there are similarities in the basic story, the biggest difference is trying to restore the home planet at long odds vs. finding a new planet at long odds.
I tried watching Star Blazers maybe five years ago, I don't think it holds up very well at all.  It didn't help that it was too expensive, I was intrigued, just not nearly enough to justify the price.
