A mage specialized in the creation of Bounded Fields. He carries a special six-layered Bounded Field named Rokudou Kyoukai (六道境界, rokudou kyoukai) that is capable of preventing the movement of any thing within it. It is mobile, something out of the ordinary since Bounded Fields are usually impossible to move, and Araya typically uses it as a weapon.
In addition, back when he was still studying in London, he designed a special apartment complex with the help of Touko Aozaki and Cornelius Alba. The building was to be used for an experiment to reach the Akashic Records, but the group disbanded before they could actually construct it.
During the time of the series however, Souren had rejoined with Cornelius to build the structure for the experiment, even without Touko's help. While he is inside, the building functions very similarly to a Reality Marble, thereby making Souren extremely powerful.
He is the driving force behind the actions of the other antagonists in the Kara no Kyoukai series via pressing them into awakening their innate abilities. His origin is "stillness".
