Well I think you should watch Soul Eater first, since it have great animation and don't have a lot of Fan service in the first part unlike the manga at that point. Then if you like it you can move on to the manga and skip the chapters you have already watch on the anime.

Yea I know Black Star is apparently allot like pre-skip Naruto, but if I mainly want to watch for Death the kid

Death The Kid is one of the highlights of Soul Eater (He have more scenes in the manga then the anime)

Probably read. I mean, It's a bit of a boring anime around episode 40. From what I hear, the manga's more interesting.
