Soul Eater News

While on summer break me and my younger brothers would watch a lot of Netflix when we were at home, eventually it became a ritual for one of us to pick something that caught our eye and we would watch as much as possible. We found a few gems in the anime section like Kaze No Stigma, Hell Girl, and Soul Eater (even though it was ruined by the ending). Everything was going great until it was my turn to pick and I saw something I wish I hadn't an anime called Air Gear. Now don't get me wrong the anime was amazing so amazing that it made me curious about the manga.  
As soon as I finished the anime I promptly went online to check out the manga and boy was I in for a treat art and action was and it was well written. I was eager to read it just to find out how the manga filled the only plot hole the anime had, before I go any further let me explain this plot hole. The main character's older sister comes home from touring and is angry to find out he is a rollerblader, but isn't angry that his three sisters rollerblade one of which is like 8 and the main character is 15-16. She explains to him that the girls are "special" that's why they can rollerblade and he can't so she forbids him and that's it.  

 After he slips and almost kills himself she goes to her paralyzed ex boyfriend and confides in him about how much she worries about him. That is my first problem with the manga if she is that worried about his safety why would she let her sisters skate?  Later we see a flashback showing that her bf isnt human and neither are her sister so I guess that's what she meant by "special". Plot hole sealed right? Wrong her bf is "special" and he still got paralyzed so what's to stop it from happening to her sisters especially the eight year old? Is it a special paralysis that only targets rollerbladers with the Y chromosome? Nope it was just someone who knew he was evil and wanted to stop him but couldn't finish the job.  

Which brings me to my what happened to simple rollerblading and the skates allow certain users to almost fly with them and eight of the very best the are what is known as "Kings" can use them to easily move around in Anti-Gravity.  I t is later revealed that there is a ninth king the "Sky King" is the top dog so everyone wants that title and it turns out the person closest to that title is the main character, and the last person who was supposed to get the title was the boyfriend so that's why she doesn't want to skate but wait. The main character showed that he utterly sucks in Anti-Gravity so why are they so sure he is the next "Sky King"? And how did she know he was that good when she chose not to teach him to skate four years ago if she never saw him skate and her boyfriend wasn't in a wheelchair yet?  
The next examples are all the way at the end (or what I think is the end of the manga) its just a sentence after the older sister and the sister that is the same age as the main character gets into a fight she says that the power that she taught her hurts the user just as much as the oponent and some of the moves are lethal. So she willingly taught her sister moves that could cause her to kill her self but she didn't want to teach her brother to lace up a pair of skates that makes no sense just like this bloody manga!

Time for some Soul Eater Not! This time around we get some info about the school and some well known characters. This is really feeling like an all female Harem/Slice Of Life story about weapons and  Meisters, and I like it :)       
 

Story 

The story begin in the DWMA's cafeteria where we see are main characters trying to buy food with money they have left, after Kim stole there money last time. They only have enough for one Kake Soba (that sucks). Then Itadakimas (there senpai) walk up to them and give them two bowls of Kake Soda. She trying to make it up for not helping Tsugumi with the Kim thing. Itadakimas then explain the reason why they call Kim a witch, it seem like Kim was pretty nice when she started going to DWMA. I guess she was trying to hide a secret (if you read Soul Eater you probably know). Also we find out one of the bad thing she did, Kim is the one who give Itadakimas the nicknamed Eternal Feather. Itadakimas have to go by that name for two years (man, that evil). Itadakimas then talk about them getting a job to earn money so they won't go hungry. After School they go to a coffee cafe own by Master (Yes, that his name), to get a job. Also Medusa stop by to get some coffee    
        

Character   

We get to meet three more characters and get more info on some well known characters. First we get more info about Kim, she seem to act meaner here then in Soul Eater. It is explain more here why Kim is acting mean, she try to keep people from being close to her. Ox Ford is also in this chapter to, he still head over heels in love with Kim. He  figure out why Kim act mean and also pay back the money Kim stole from Tsugumi, so she won't talk bad about Kim (What a guy). Next are the new characters, Master is the owner of the coffee cafe where Tsugumi and the girls works. He look pretty cool and kind of look like Free a little. Next is there co-workers, Akane is a Meister who is parters with Clay. The reason why they work there is that Clay spend all there money on games. Tsugumi haven't did anything really, just notice that Meme look cute in the maid outfit. Meme is doing pretty good at her job. Anya seems like she having a blast to at working, seem like she not that spoil. Also Tsugumi ask the other girls to not put honorific in her name (to show friendship). 
 

Overall 

This chapter was very good, it give us info on why some characters have strange names and what the best coffee in Death City is.

Yo Anime Vice! This is the best time to post this because I will be very busy this weekend. Also, just a heads up that there is only a 50% chance there will be any "Dunce Cap" episodes next week. This time around we get to meet two new characters Kana Altair and Misery. All of them bring something new to the table, but it starting to look like an all lady harem. I don't know that have been done before, but I think is pretty funny :)
 

Story

This chapter is mostly about Tsugumi, Meme, and Anya meeting there new roommates. I also find it interesting, about this chapter was they all get $200 allowance, I wish I got that much money when I was going to school. The only thing got me confuse was Kim. I thought she was nice, but this is in the past so she'll probably change as the manga go on
 
 
 
 
 
 

Characters

  Again I love the new characters, I can't wait until see how they develop. Kana Altair is a fortune teller, I don't know if she a Weapon or Meister. She seem to be very quiet and only talks when she tell a fortune. The next one is the Super Intendent of the Dorm, Misery. She look like Annie Wilkes and she as crazy as her to. She believe that poor Tsugumi look like Mary Smith from her favorite Novel, and as such Tsugumi should act like her. The first thing that come to my mind was "why did Shinigami-sama hire a crazy person to look over his students?" Last but least Kim Diehl, she is totally different from what she like now. Hitting people on the head and stealing money from people, no wonder they call her a witch.  I wonder if something changes her, here hoping I get to see it. I kind of feel sorry for Tsugumi in
this chapter, she have to live in a dorm with a crazy lady that probably will try to break her legs and a bully witch that steal her lunch money. I was kind of right about Meme, she able to kick some butt (only when she is asleep). And I didn't find out any new things about Anya, only she get into a fight with Kana
 
 

Overall

This is a good slow chapter, I got a couple of laughs. Here hoping the next will be better. But it is starting to feel like a harem

What are your guys thoughts about this chapter?

Well, it's been a hectic 12 hours since Anime Vice when all Hellen Keller. No could write much of anything. I was even right in the middle of working on this week's Anime Vice Japanese Lesson. While that's still coming, I wanted to share with you some of the latest purchases I made in the world of manga and anime today.
 
Back when I first reported on Anime Vice that Yen Press would start releasing Highschool of the Dead to the US. I was really excited. I wanted to start covering that and I looked forward to the release for Jan. 25 since I first heard that date last month. I waited all month and held off using any of my holiday gift cards. I drove to my local Borders only to find that Borders will not be carrying Highschool of the Dead in store. You can only purchase it online. Now, that is irony. I held off pre-ordering, because I wanted to get it on it's release date, in place of waiting a week or so for delivery. I really wanted to write a review of Volume 1 and submit it as an article for Anime Vice. Saying I was disappointed would be an understatement.
 
I did order Highschool of the Dead online, but through Amazon. Borders.com wanted $13 for this. I got it on Amazon for $8.26, and yet Borders still wonders why they can't compete. Once you have removed the convenience factor of having the product same day. They're pretty well screwed. While I was at it, I also pre-ordered Summer Wars on blu-ray, which if you been following the Oscar buzz was denied a nomination. Good news, I'm getting two things I wanted. Bad News, to get the free shipping. I will have to wait until February to get that Highschool of the Dead volume with my Summer Wars.
 
I did use my roughly $90 worth of gift cards today, anyways. Borders was having a special of Buy 4 Manga and Get 5th Free. I really couldn't pass up on that kind of deal. So, here's what I got.
I know some of you are probably going to be pretty shocked about what you might see here. The selection is a bit random. I tend to buy volumes that have scenes I really enjoy and fill in from there.

That's right, mixed in with the Del Rey and Yen Press books are VIZ Media mangas. I've been considering for a long time relaxing my boycott of VIZ manga. Just seemed as every time I started to soften. Someone would make an absolutely ignorant comment to make excises for censorship. New Flash, people. There is no excuse for censorship of books. Censorship has never improved anything. The ball started rolling with just how great Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood way. I recently finished the anime and was very impressed.
Just don't get the false impression that means I'm not going to keep commenting against VIZ Media any changes I get. Nor am I going to stopped using scanlations for VIZ series. Here's the funny thing. Since it was a "Buy 4 and Get the 5th Free" deal. I technically paid more money to Del Rey and Yen Press. I didn't pay anything for those two volumes of One Piece.

It was hard to select which Fullmetal Alchemists to get. I kind of went with a theme. One is Riza Hawkeye, Olivier Milla Armstrong, and Lan Fan.

I plan to read and review all of these volume for Anime Vice. I've currently written 64 reviews on Anime Vice and I have a have a 96% recommendation rate on my reviews. No one on Animce Vice as written as many reviews, and I'm not even staff. You can see complete list of all my reviews HERE
 
I kind of wish I could be a staff writer for the site. I could afford to then buy more manga and anime and write even more reviews. I am a little green in the eyes how Tom Pinchuk was sent a big batch of anime DVDs by FUNimation. Still, I'm happy for him, too

Soul Eater Not! is a spinoff of Soul Eater. Its about a new weapon named Tsugumi Harudori, who join DWMA to become a hero.

Story

The story take place before Soul Eater, so canon should not be a problem. I always wonder how the other Meisters and Weapons met, this new story give me a good look at how it is done. I laugh a couple of times, It a good change of paste from the dark story now.
 

Characters

The new characters are pretty good, their is about three new characters. The female protagonist Tsugumi is a weapon, who don't know how to change into a weapon. Tsugumi is pretty interesting character, I wonder how she'll grow. Meme is a Meister, who isn't that bright. I have a feeling that she smart, I guess I have to wait and see. Anya is a Meister, who come from a rich family.  She kinda looks like Soul as a girl from the lust chapter in Eibon's book, I have a strong feeling that Anya might be a relative of Soul. Maka, Black Star, and Sid have all make a cameo in the first chapter. Sid is alive, I so use to him being dead. Maka give a helping hand to the new girl and Black Star is Black Star. I hoping to see more side characters in the future.
 
 

Overall

This new story is great, if you are a Soul Eater fan. It's really refreshing to get some understanding of how Meisters and Weapon get partnered up and the school life at 
DWMA .

What are your guys thoughts about this spinoff?   

 I've finished watching a few animes in the last month and I must ask: What the hell is wrong with those scriptwriters? It almost feels disrespectful towards the fans the way some stories and endings are presented.  

Among the over 150 animes I've watched the general feeling I got in 90% of the endings was "Lalala, it's so nice doing an anime! Oh, wait, we have to finish it! Just come up with anything and let's call it a day!" 

Seriously! It's not that difficult doing an ending that goes along with the pace of the anime for pete's sake!

When it comes to Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin, it's not only the ending that makes no sense. Don't get the wrong idea, the anime is good, but they simply  proposed on doing something, to completely forget it during the series and remebered to pick it up again on the ending in a completely nonsense way.

If this was simply an anime to tell the story of a group of teenagers facing supernatural occurrences it'd have been an amazing one. After all, there wouldn't be any kind of commitment to a larger story. 

And that's where Occult Academy went wrong. They offer you an interesting premise only to abandon it afterwards , and, even worse, to "suddenly" remember it on the very ending.

This mistake has been repeating itself in SO many animes that it's getting on my nerves. If you don't know how you want to end a story, don't even get started!:@

Soul Eater was another one that totally lost focus on the last 10-15 episodes.  
 
The feeling of  "Oh, gee, we have to conclude the story! Let's just put everything together in a very mediocre way and that's it!" is outrageously present in this show.
 
 The fight with Asura is just lame. From the Shinigami to Maka the whole "OMG! I've just discovered I have a mega powerful blast which is really cool but won't do anything" and the "Ah, well, we have tons of characters but 90% of them will just be standing by watching while everything happens" made me want to murder the writer.  
 
For real, this show had such an outstanding beginning. An amazingly well done  development of all the main characters, a very interesting premise. Such an awesome stage preparation, only to throw it all away afterwards? And this is just to mention the two most recent animes I've watched.
 
Sometimes I really feel like, overall speaking, animes are for children. Only they would accept such lame plots and endings.
