One of the main characters of Soul Eater, Soul Eater Evans, more commonly referred to simply as Soul, is a scythe weapon, and a student at Shibusen.
Soul grew up in a wealthy family of musicians. He learned to play the piano from a young age, but he was always cautious to play it because he knew that his brother Wes would always be a better musician than him. This could very well be the reason why Soul is constantly striving to be "cool" around others, because of his inferiority complex growing up. Soul eventually learned that he was the first Demon Weapon in his family's history, giving him the chance to escape from there and go out and make his own path in life. It is because he is trying to escape this life that he rarely lets anyone call him by his last name.
After joining Shibusen he was approached by Maka who heard him playing music. She told him that she felt like she could trust him and she wanted to learn to use a scythe, the kind of weapon that Soul is, in order to make a Death Scythe for Shinigami-sama. Any Demon Weapon is capable of becoming a Death Scythe, but she wanted one that was already a scythe, believing it would give her a greater chance of Shinigami-sama choosing it as his own weapon. Soul thought the idea sounded cool so he agreed to tag along and the two of them began collecting Kishin eggs in order to turn him into a Death Scythe.
The character of Soul Eater Evans is a main protagonist and titular character of the Soul Eater series created by Atsushi Ohkubo. The first chapter was published in Square Enix's Gangan Powered on June 24, 2003, and began regular monthly serialization in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan manga magazine on May 12, 2004.
His first appearance was in Soul Eater Volume 1 Prologue 1 "Soul Eater", and his first anime appearance was in Soul Eater - Episode 1 "Resonance of the Soul – Will Soul Eater Become a Death Scythe?". His character in the Japanese series is voiced by Koki Uchiyama, and the U.S. dub produced by FUNimation is done by Micah Solusod.
They finally captured 99 eggs when the series had begun, meaning they only needed one witch's soul to make him a Death Scythe. They fought and defeated Blair (despite Soul Constantly suffering nose bleeds over the site of her), however after eating her soul they learned that she wasn't actually a witch, but a cat with magical powers. This meant Soul now had to start all over again in his quest to gather Kishin eggs.
Soul and Maka team up with Black Star and Tsubaki in order to hunt down a former teacher, Frank Stein, who has apparantly turned one of their teachers, Sid, into a zombie. They first faced off against Sid himself, and Maka and Soul used their soul resonance to create the "Witch Hunter" a powerful form where Soul grows in size and power. Unfortunately they weren't skilled enough yet to properly use the attack and they ended up missing and almost hitting Black Star.
However with their help the team trapped Sid and found their way to Frank Stein's laboratory. He quickly defeated them but when he moved in for the killing blow Soul returned to human mode to shield Maka's body. When Frank saw this he told them that they had passed the lesson, revealing this was just a test set up by Shinigami-sama to test their powers and their teamwork. They were all shocked to see Frank return to the school as their new teacher.
Stein turned out not to be the only new member of the academy, as Shinigami-sama's own son, Death the Kid, joined as a student soon after. Soul and Black Star didn't take kindly to him so they challenged him to a battle. However they were beaten pretty harshly and the two of them began to argue. Soul even tried to let Black Star use him in scythe mode but it wasn't able to work because their soul wavelengths weren't in sync.
Soul and Maka headed to Italy to capture another Kishin soul, but after successfully defeating it Maka sensed something that she had to check out, it was something that wasn't like anything else she had heard. She and Soul went to a church and found Crona waiting inside after having just killed a large group of people. They battled Crona but found that she was far stronger than they were, her body was like steel and her sword cas far stronger than Soul. When she came in for the finishing blow, Soul demanded Maka use him to shield herself. She didn't want to, but Soul at the last minute took the option out of her hand by turning back into his human form and getting slashed across the chest. They were saved before Crona could finish them off by Frank and Spirit showing up to defeat her.
Soul was put into the infirmery at the school where he was watched over by Medusa, Crona's mother who was secretly a witch, working at the school as a nurse so that she could betray it from within. She used this opportunity to watch over Soul and see how the black blood in Crona's sword would affect Soul now that it was in his bloodstream from the cut. He began having strange dreams where he was bursting out of Maka's chest, or ones where a little demon would start appearing in a room with a piano and he would be dancing out of sync to the music.
Eventually Soul was able to come out of this illness and he made almost a full recovery. However Medusa wasn't done experimenting with Soul to see how the blood had changed him, so she sent Free after them to test out how the blood had changed him in battle. When they tried to fight Free, Maka couldn't even lift Soul because now their soul wavelengths were totally different. Inside Soul's mind the little demon appeared again and told Soul to embrace him, to embrace the insanity and madness he was bringing. Soul took him up on it and he and Maka were able to use soul resonance again, however this time Maka felt like she was being eaten by Soul. They were able to push Free off the edge of the bridge and defeat him for now.
