Plot Summary

Dan tells his life story
Dan tells his life story

Samuel introduces himself to Gajeel's group as the brains of Legion. Over at the chapel, Natsu and his group look at the clock part they've found, while Coco continues to observe. Michelle, Happy and Lucy ask Dan for an explanation concerning Legion and their pursuit of the clock parts. Dan answers with a picture story. Born in the town of Cedar, Dan lived near a church where he grew up as a knight with others like him. His story is pretty strange with a civil war ending quickly and how he found his first love. At first, he states that Lucy looks like the first girl he fell in love with. Happy thinks this is why Dan pursues Lucy; however, the girls that Dan has fallen heads over heels for after the first girl all look different. Dan explains that he falls for any girl who catches his eye. In the story, all the girls reject him, and when Michelle asks who drew the portraits, Dan replies that Sugarboy and Mary Hughes drew them based on some photos and Dan's diary. He ends his story without revealing any of Legion's secrets for fear of being punished by Byro. Dan then returns to chasing Lucy while Natsu and the gang think about what to do next. Michelle wonders about Coco's whereabouts, and Lucy remarks that Coco is nice and sincere. Coco, still observing, tells herself she wants to avoid hurting Lucy if possible.

Over at Gajeel's location, Pantherlily takes on Samuel who calls Pantherlily his big brother, due to age. Both Samuel and Pantherlily transform for battle, and the two Exceeds duke it out. Gajeel digs through, and his group uncover a ruin with strange blue statues. During their fight, Samuel goes over how he can predict Pantherlily's moves according to his calculations. He informs his enemy about the mine traps. In the ruins, Levy reads an inscription: "I am hungry." Jet sees a structure similar to a clock face, and Levy believes they should move the hands to a certain time. After completing the puzzle, a small clock face appears, which Gajeel licks to confirm it's made of iron. Before Levy can stop Gajeel, Gajeel triggers a trap upon removing the clock's face. Levy scolds Gajeel for his blunder. A giant blue, squid-like stone guardian rises from the ground and begins attacking the group. When they see the glowing red part on it's head, they believe it must be a weakness. Shadow Gear team goes into action to bind the guardian in place with oil and vines. Jet uses his High Speed to run on Droy's vines, but the vine snaps with Jet falls into the oil slick. After two failed attempts, Droy decides to give it a try, but quickly gets exhausted because of his weight. He falls and lands on top of Jet. Gajeel tries his luck next. In the skies above the ruins, Pantherlily asks Samuel why he is part of Legion. Samuel replies he is paying back his obligation to Legion due to Byro who took care of him.

The two Exceeds are inside the ruin, and Gajeel is running low on stamina. He jokingly goes to eat the clock face, but then throws over to Levy since the guardian is aiming for the clock. Taking the opportunity, Gajeel destroys the stone guardian with his Karma Demon: Iron God Sword attack. Samuel freaks out because things didn't match his calculations, and Pantherlily easily defeats him while he's flustered and off-guard. Samuel claims he lost because he simply didn't do enough calculations beforehand, aggravating Pantherlily who kicks Samuel sky-high. Gajeel teases Pantherlily for being called "big brother" by Samuel.

Elsewhere, Lisanna is underwater swimming in her mermaid form and pulls a giant plug. The lake she's in drains and reveals another clock piece. Elfman pulls the piece out of the ground and throws it in frustration, landing near Mary. Mary gloats about how smart she is for letting Elfman's group find the piece, even though it was actually Samuel's plan. When Elfman attacks, Mary uses her magic to manipulate Elfman into attacking his sisters. Meanwhile at the chapel, Dan continues chasing poor Lucy, and Happy questions him about Michelle. As Dan stares at Michelle, Dan states that he likes his girls with spunk. Out of nowhere, Virgo appears, and when she calls Lucy a princess, Coco is filled with awe. Dan asks Virgo if she can bring them some food, but Virgo, having prepared no food, instead does a dance similar to traditional dancing from Dan's home town. The two bond for a moment and dance together, shocking Lucy. Suddenly, Byro's octopus bursts in and destroys the chapel. Dan and Coco apologize for their failure, and Dan is knocked out by a falling rock. Byro has Jude's memento, and Natsu challenges him to get it back.
