There is a world where something called the Aurora Shell keeps the planet's atmosphere in place and strikes down with lightning anything that flies too close to it. About 12 years ago an event called the Blast Fall occurred, where a large ball of lightning fell from the sky onto a city, destroying several buildings and countless lives in an instant. In the present, the people of the city are dealing with a new reality: A group called the RUC essentially controls everything in the city and people of all types can now walk the streets with prosthetics called "Resembles" that can include new limbs or even hidden weapons.
It is in this world that Roy Revant, an abusive alcoholic and bounty hunter, accidentally finds himself saved by a strange girl with green hair and long ears who falls out of the sky and later calls herself Solty. While he searches for his daughter (missing and presumed dead since the aforementioned Blast Fall), Roy must deal with crazy killers, thieves and mad scientists as he completes his work for the "Maverick Hunters" agency run by the mother and adopted-daughter duo of Miranda and Kasha Maverick. Meanwhile, Solty searches for her own identity and ends up running into Rose Anderson, a well-intentioned thief and Yuto, a geek with a little too much interest in Solty's inner-workings.
