Simulcast & Simulpub News

Simulcast & Simulpub is a anime/manga concept
| |

Last Friday night when I got back home, I finished the Punk Hazard arc for One Piece. I can't post a lot of images right now. These two Shonen series I picked out were my biggest shows to marathon out of my Anime Experiences: Trying New Recommendations from Fellow Vicers project. For One Piece, I started out with the manga back in Summer 2012. I read up to Skypiea, and I had a long hiatus from reading One Piece due to being busy with college, wiki projects, and other Anime Vice projects. Until Toonami started airing One Piece's Long Ring arc in May 2013, I started watching it on Toonami. However, I got impatient and started doing a marathon on HULU.

For Toriko, it was for a wiki project. It was one of the biggest wiki projects in Anime Vice where it rocks the battle forums and wiki community. I started getting into Toriko around Fall 2013.

The purpose of this blog was to inspire folks in Anime Vice to share and to post blogs about shows they are doing a big marathon on. Please feel free to share comments and post blogs.

One Piece and Toriko Marathon Journal

*Don't worry, I don't put spoilers.

I found One Piece way addicting to watch than Toriko. Each weekday, I watch about 4 episodes a week for One Piece and 2 episodes for Toriko. In the weekends, I watch about 5 episodes of One Piece while working on homework. During Winter break, I watched a ton of One Piece. Toriko is a fun show, but it's not emotionally gripping. In the 80 episodes or so I watch of Toriko, no major character had died. Compared to One Piece, it was pretty heavy during Franky/Robin's moments in Water Seven arc and Luffy's moments in Marineford arc. I had to add one major One Piece character's death to my most tearful moments in anime.

One Piece

During Water Seven arc, there was a huge filler, recap arc on the Straw Hat pirates. This is a good arc for those who don't want to watch all these episodes of One Piece. It covers every backstory of the characters except for Robin and Franky at this point in the story. I skipped that after seeing the summaries on HULU. Of course, HULU does not have Thriller Bark arc or pieces of Robin's backstory. I was really angry at HULU. I'm a person who will not visit pirated sites, so I skipped Thriller Bark arc and read the arc summary at One Piece Wikia.

Each major arc in One Piece was great and pretty distinguished. Most Shonen series that progressed this far feels rinse and repeat because content is stale. One Piece was damn creative. Marineford, Luffy's backstory, and Impel Down was heavy with drama, sacrifices, freedom, and family themes. Punk Hazard, my most recent arc I finished, explores the drug abuse. I didn't expect that.

  • Simulcasts - From HULU to Crunchyroll

As you know I only watch on legal streaming sites, I got to episode 619 or 620. I saw Crunchyroll started steaming One Piece from that episode count. When I jumped from Hulu to Crunchyroll, I notice a big difference in video quality on my PlayStation 3. I watched all my shows on the TV if a show isn't on my wiki project, episode summaries.

  • Fall 2013 - Finished Water Seven Arc and skipped Thriller Bark Arc.
  • Winter Break - Finished Impel Down arc, Marineford arc, and Luffy's backstory with Ace and Sabo arc
  • January - Mid March - Finished Mermaid Island Arc
  • Mid March - May 2, 2014 - Finished Punk Hazard Arc

Toriko

I stopped at the beginning of the Meteor Garlic arc. I loved Toriko. It had a Willy Wonka feeling when the narrator talks about the wonders of the Gourmet World at the beginning of each episode. Komatsu, Toriko, and the gang grew on me. Toriko's lack of blood shed and censorship reminds me of Fairy Tail. I did skipped to Cooking Festival arc to provide screenshots for my wiki editing teammates. I did go back and rewatch the episodes I missed. I even watch the filler arcs like the Santa one. They were short, so I didn't notice the filler feeling.

I had said a lot of stuff about Toriko in my past blogs, so this is why my take on Toriko is short.

Well thank you fro reading. I rushed this blog because I need to work on papers. Plus, the site is glitching a lot, so I couldn't do lot of wiki editing today. This blog was fun to do. I do random blogs to unwind from the stress of school.

Please post blogs on shows you guys and gals are doing a marathon on this year or last year. It will be great to hear your experiences.

As some of you know, I live in Canada. You may also know that Hulu only streams to U.S. users. While sites like Funimation.com and Crunchyroll primarily stream to Canada and US.

BUT ever since the site-revamp of Funimation.com, some of its anime have switched to using an embedded Hulu video player to stream its anime. So for me, some of the anime I was previously able to watch on Funimation, I was unable to watch due to the new mandatory Hulu player for some anime (e.g. Psycho-Pass, Black Lagoon Season 2).

So until VERY recently, I kind of just let this slide, and presumed something might have been wrong with the site, not detecting that I'm from Canada and loading the right video player or something, or that it might get fixed eventually. Then I googled and stumbled upon a Hummingbird thread that suggested the extensions below to get around the region-lock.

LINKS (tl;dr, download extensions to by-pass region-locking)

  • MediaHint (this is what I use, simple and works perfectly)
  • Hola (was also suggested, it has more functions than MediaHint, so see if it's right for you)

P.S. I'm not sure if this violates site regulations? I understand we are a pro-legal-streaming site and anti-pirate site, so I don't know if this is the same as that... I mean if more people watch their stuff, shouldn't that mean more ad-money for them? Anyways my intentions are pure, I just want more people to enjoy their anime more freely, and maybe help out people who are in a similar situation as I was... and spread the love of anime. o3o

Hello, everyone! And welcome to another blog by DHK. Today, I'll be talking about two of the Simulcast Manga sites, Viz's Shonen Jump and Crunchyroll's Simulpub. This isn't a verses match, it more of a review (not really a big one) of them. I feel both sites do a good with the Manga they are translating. Also, I doing a Shonen Jump's giveaway. I'll be giveaway a year of Shonen Jump, the details will be at the end of the review. Here we go

Shonen Jump

My Prayers Have Been Answers
My Prayers Have Been Answers

Shonen Jump is a digital magazine of the one in Japan, it doesn't have all the series that run in Shonen Jump. But it does have One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, World Trigger, Nisekoi and Toriko. But Viz isn't limit to just Shonen Jump's title, they can get other Jump's titles like One-Punch Man, Blue Exorcist, All You Need is Kill and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal. Giving our Shonen Jump a little more range, then the one in Japan

The Price

The magazine is pretty cheap, it only cost you $0.99 for an issue that you keep on your Viz account. For 12-Month, will cost you $25.99 (a steal). Those are great prices for ten to thirteen chapters a week for a year and some free Yugioh cards (meh). The downside to it, you won't be able to get any of the back issues if you didn't start from the beginning. Also, it only available in Canada, US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. But, here hoping they will go global in the future

The Quality

Great Quality
Great Quality

The magazine have good quality, there no watermarks, advertising or anything that mess up the art on the page. The two page spreads are done nicely, but sometime they not perfectly a line (But Viz do go back and fix it). The translation is pretty great, I haven't seen any hiccup with it. But the downside (if you really call it) they still use the English names like Zolo and Soul Reaper. But, I kind of gone over it, and it doesn't bug me anymore.

The Manga

Most People Miss This Part
Most People Miss This Part

At the moment Viz have twelve Manga running in Shonen Jump, they are One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, World Trigger, Toriko, Nisekoi, Blue Exorcist, One-Punch Man, All You Need is Kill, Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal and the new Manga called Stealth Symphony. A big line up, some old and some new. Some of the Manga run on bi-weekly (like Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign and One-Punch Man) and others run monthly (like Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal and Blue Exorcist). The downside, some of the Manga are in the middle of an arc and hard to jump on if you not familiar with the Manga

The Extras

Viz sometime put extras things in the magazine, like color chapters of One Piece and Naruto or a One-Shot by Masashi Kishimoto. They also do interviews with the Mangaka and have an Author Comments at the end of the magazine. They also did a year of Dragon Ball in color, I have nothing really bad to say about the extras

Simulpub

Simulpub is a little different from Shonen Jump, it not a digital magazine. It work kind of like their anime stream, you don't have to paid to read a chapter. Their range of Manga is greater then Shonen Jump, they have series like Space Brothers, Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, The Seven Deadly Sins and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches

The Price

Both Racer and Cobra Are Surprise At The Low Prices
Both Racer and Cobra Are Surprise At The Low Prices

It's free! For the current chapter, to read the past chapters you have to have an All-Access Membership or Manga Membership. Which will cost you around 4.95 a month and 39.95 a year (or you can get a guest pass from your friend). The downside, you have to have an All-Access Membership to have both Anime and Manga. You can't have them both without the J-Drama (which I'm not a fan of). Simulpub almost global, I think it missing some counties

The Quality

Need To Be A Little Closer
Need To Be A Little Closer

I haven't gone through all of the Mangas yet, but what I saw it was pretty good quality with little hiccups in them. The downside, a lot of the two page spreads are not line up correctly (and they haven't fix them yet). And some chapters don't have the color page in color. It really noticeable, I hope they will fix it. The other problem I have is the they also have the English sound effect as big as the the Japanese one. That really bug, I like when the English sound effect is small, being big kind of take away the scene. Last but not lease, is the little boxes on the sides that tell you about the characters, it just bug me

The Manga

More Like It
More Like It

At the moment, Simulpub have Twenty Seven (somewhat up to date) Mangas to read online. The titles are Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, The Seven Deadly Sins, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Space Brothers, Coppelion, A Town Where You Live, As the Gods Will - The Second Series, Fort of Apocalypse, My Wife is Wagatsuma-san, UQ Holder!, Sun-Ken Rock, Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, Silver Nina, Inside Mari, Love Theory, Orange, Star Light Woman, Is this Girl for Real!?, Okitenemuru, King's Game: Origin, ReCollection, Action Mask, Arpeggio of Blue Steel, Spirit Circle and Shindo. The good having so making Manga, is that you have a wide selection. But the downside is that most of them are still running and Simulpub is taking it time translating the past chapters

Simulpub don't have any extras

My final thoughts, are they both are pretty good with some downsides (that I hope they will fix). I hope in the future their be more official Simulcast of Manga, I would love to have Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Magi, Vinland Saga and Silver Spoon. Thanks for reading and remember to support the Anime/Manga industry

Hello, everyone! And welcome to another blog by DHK. Sorry, I haven't been writing that much blogs, I have been busy with life and also sorry for not doing that contest I said I'll do in the last blog (I still planning to do it, just need the time). Any who, before January ends I'll do my top 5 list of 2013. I decided to go with the best chapters of last year, because last year was the year of the Simulcasting Manga. With that said, here is my rules for my list

There will be spoilers in this list

  1. I only using chapters that came out in 2013
  2. I only using chapters I read in 2013
  3. I only using the official chapters
  4. I only using one chapter per series

I guess, I'll start with one honorable mention. This chapter is awesome, but didn't cut it for the real list

Honorable Mention

One Piece: Chapter 731 - Operation Dressrosa S.O.P.

This was an amazing chapter of One Piece, it have one of the best moments in the series. The reveal of Sabo was nicely done, and both him and Koala being part of the Revolutionary Army and Koala being the first human user of Fishman Karate was just amazing and made sense in story. And we found about Toy Soldier's plan and the person behind turning people into Toys. It was all round a good chapter. But I don't feel it was the best for this year

My Top Five Chapters Of 2013

5. Fairy Tail: Chapter 358 - The Devil Particles

This was an amazing chapter of Fairy Tail, it build up the villain of the arc to be a force to deal and show how dangers they our by taking out Laxus and his Thunder God Tribe and killing one hundred people. That show, the usual Fairy Tail's brute force won't work on these new enemies and they have to be more careful. But with recent FT chapters the villain feel like the same villains from the other arcs, so I hope FT build threat back up

4. World Trigger: Chapter 40 - Yuma Kuga: Part 8

World Trigger didn't start out that good, but it have been growing on me. This chapter show Yuma wasn't like the other Shonen heroes who usually new to everything and pure, Yuma is different because he already a skillful soldier who have seen combat in has day. He pretty much a cold blood killer when he isn't making a duck face. He pretty much destroy Shun Midorikawa for disrespecting his pal Osamu

3. The Seven Deadly Sins: Chapter 22 - A Pursuer to Fear

This chapter was a great battle chapter, it introduce one of my favorite characters of the Deadly Sins, Holy Knight Guila. I really enjoy the art and the action, it show Guila was a force to deal and how far she'll go to inforce her sense of Justice. I also like the fact nobody really explain their powers to the enemy (Bleach), it them feel more smarter in figuring out their enemy powers. Also the cliffhanger with Ban and King was cool

2. One-Punch Man: Bonus Chapter

One-Punch Man is one of my favorite Manga at the moment, I love the story and the art it was an all round good manga. Anyway, this bonus chapter was amazing. It show us the point of view of a police force in a super hero world and how they are being overshadow by the Superheroes. In the mainstream comics, we never really a view of the police and how they feel about the heroes, they usually cart the villain to jail or high five Spider-Man for doing a good job. It was pretty cool seeing the police's point of view in the matter

1. One Piece: Chapter 700 - His Momentum

This is my favorite chapter of 2013, this chapter is the reason why I love One Piece. It pretty much show you how important Don Quixote Doflamingo title as Warlord is, it pretty much throw some countries into chaos. We also get to see the new Warlord the Genius Jester Buggy and it stand up the villains of the arc pretty well. And last but not lease, we found out Doffy have the Flame-Flame Fruit

Well, that my list for 2013. I might have miss some stuff, but I feel pretty good about this list. Tell me what you think about my list and share with me, your favorite chapters of 2013. Next blog (I'm hope) is Viz's Shonen Jump vs Simulpub

Thanks for reading and remember to support the Anime/Manga industry

Sorry if their was any typos.

Also here some awesome blogs to check out
