Episode 3 (US)
- " Silver Chariot and Strength"
Jotaro and company are flying in a jet provided by the Speedwagon
Foundation, en-route to Egypt.
Joseph does not like flying, but is
reminded by Avdol that time is of the essence, and if they must find
Dio and defeat him in 50 days, if Holly's safety is to be assured.
Then one of the plane's engines explodes. Joseph goes to the cockpit
to investigate and discovers that the plane is going to have to make
an emergency water landing. Quoth Jotaro, “What a pain.”
The plane lands successfully, and everyone makes it to a life
boat. As they float in the ocean, they discuss the cause of the
accident. Through the mist, they see a ship, named “Strength”,
approaching them. Joseph considers this a sign of good luck, but
Avdol isn't so sure. Boarding the ship, a massive freighter, they
find it deserted, and Kakyoin compares this to the case of the Mary
Celeste. Our heroes take the logical action of splitting up and
searching the ship alone.
Our heroes find nothing save a caged orangutang, who seeks to be
let out of his cage. Suddenly, the ship comes alive on its own. As
they investigate the bridge, they see a shadow as they approach, then
the ship goes dark again. They then hear music, and find a room with
a table and food laid out for them, and a man waiting for him. The
man introduces himself as working for Dio, and reveals his stand –
Silver Chariot, which appears as a sword-wielding knight. After
declaring Avdol his next target, he introduces himself as Jean-Pierre
Polnareff, and that his sword can cut fire. He asks them to move
their fight to the hold.
In the hold, Polnareff has prepared an arena for the fight. The
two square off, but Polnareff toys with Avdol. Avdol uses his “Cross
Fire Hurricane” attack, but Polnareff repels it, burning Avdol
instead. This time, Avdol restrains Silver Chariot, and then burns
him. With Silver Chariot being unable to cut the flame, it is
However, Silver Chariot sheds its armor, and the fight continues.
However, now Polnareff is vulnerable to the CFH. There is a twist,
however: Silver Chariot is now able to move fast enough that Avdol
and Magician's Red can't track him. Avdol counters by splitting the
CFH's flame, and sending a series of blasts at Silver Chariot as a
feint, and another through the floor directly at Polnareff.
When all seems safe, another attack comes – the ship's crane
moves on its own, killing one of the pilots. A series of bursting
bolts kills the other. To their horror, our heroes discover that the
boat itself is a stand, wielded by the orangutang, named Devo the
Cursed/Soul Sacrifice (depending on the version of the series).
Jotaro fights Devo, but is nearly overcome, until Silver Chariot
comes to his rescue and kills Devo. Our new band of heroes –
Jotaro, Joseph, Avdol, Jean-Pierre, and Kakyoin continue on their way
in Devo's more conventional craft. Jean-Pierre explains that he's
seeking the man who killed his sister, named J. Geil, who has two
right hands, and Dio had offered that man to him.
With that out of the way, our heroes continue on their way to
Egypt. Quoth Jotaro, “What a pain.” However, danger awaits them
in their next stop – India, including the man Polnareff seeks –
