Shu Ouma is the main protagonist of the "Guilty Crown" franchise. He is a 17-year-old second year student that attends Tennozu High School and is in class 2-A. Shu is also a part of the school's modern image and video research club. Shu is an introverted and unsociable teenager, having the tendency to stay out of the way of others and not having close friends. He lacks self-confidence, keeps his opinions to himself, and is reluctant to do anything that would make him stand out. He describes the friends that he makes as "quasi-friends", i.e. appearing as friends, but aren't actually friends.
After a chance encounter with Inori Yuzuriha, Shu ends up getting involved with an anti-government group that goes by the name Funeral Parlor, or Undertaker. Being caught amidst the fighting between Undertaker and GHQ's Anti Bodies, Shu gets infected by the stolen Void Genome and obtains "The King's Power", which is evident by the "Guilty Crown" symbol that now appears on his right hand. The King's Power allows Shu to extract a long sword-like weapon from Inori, known as Inori's Viod, and use it for combat.
Haruka Ouma is Shu's foster mother, and Shu addresses her as "Haruka". Kurosu Ouma is Shu's father. Little has been revealed about him except that he was one of the leading scientists at Tennozu College. He was Haruka's (Shu's foster mother) instructor. Kurosu died during the Lost Chritmas event, and his grave is at Oshima. Shu knows little about his father since he passed away when he was very young.
The original character art for Shu Ouma was created by Redjuice Graphics. Takeshi Shinji Wada, the producer of the anime, explains that Shu Ouma's character is supposed to contrast that of Gai Tsutsugami ; thus making them both character foils. Shu is the introverted, quiet, and normal high school student; whereas Gai is the charismatic, talented, and strong leader-type.
Shu is usually seen wearing his school uniform. He has brown eyes and brown hair, with a lighter streak on the left side of his head.
When Shu's powers are activated, his eyes turn red, and are more serious and slanted, rather than his regular rounded and innocent eyes.
Shu is the introverted, quiet, and normal high school student.
Somehow, Shu gets infected by the Void Genome and can use the King's Powers to pull Voids out of people. In season 1, Shu has to follow the rules in getting the Void by making eye contact with the person and the age requirement is 17 or younger. However, in season 2, Shu's powers change after the event where Gai and Mana dies. Shu can pull out Void without making eye contact. Also, the person who gets their Void taken out is conscious, and they can use their Void.
