The series that blurs the lines between health care and vigilante justice gets an official release date.

--

If you've been itching to get your hands on the TRIAGE X manga from Shoji Sato (artist of HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD) after it was announced that Yen Press would be publishing the series. We now know when we can finally make our first appointment -- no insurance required. Yen Press revealed, via their website, the release dates for the first three volumes and the their official series synopsis.

Mochizuki General Hospital boasts some of the most well-trained (and well-endowed) nurses in town. But though these ladies spend much of their day battling disease, their after-hours are spent fighting a very different sort of disease…Under the leadership of the hospital chairman, a handful of staff members and local teenagers form a group of mercenary assassins, targeting the “cancers” of society and excising those individuals before their wickedness spreads.

While Volume 1 will be out this October 30, 2012, the following two wont be out till 2013. The Japanese publication has currently reached four volumes and is still ongoing.

  • TRIAGE X Volume 1 | Coming October 2012
  • TRIAGE X Volume 2 | Coming February 2013
  • TRIAGE X Volume 3 | Coming June 2013

Volume 1 is currently available on Amazon.com for pre-orders. I checked Rightstuf.com, but I couldn't find anything. It shouldn't be too much longer until it's there as well.

Kadokawa Promotes Lollipop Chainsaw with Highschool of the Dead

Imagine my surprise as I was browsing for pictures of Saeko Busujima that I stumbled on this illustration by Shouji Sato, artist on HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD, of the star of LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW, Juliet Starling, along with Saeko and Rei Miyamoto, two of the stars from H.O.T.D..

I was originally pretty confused about this cross promotion. Other than they are both about chopping zombies up. I didn't see any other connection. I know Dragon Age magazine, where H.O.T.D. is originally serialized, loves to put Saeko and Rei on the covers despite the series being on hiatus. It wasn't until I paid more attention to the LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW trailer that it all fell into place. H.O.T.D. is published by Kadokawa. LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW is being published by Kadokawa Games.

Oh yeah, if you didn't know, That's the living-disembodied head of Juliet Starling boyfriend, Nick, tied to her belt. It all makes more sense once you realize this is another Suda 51 project. You can check out a trailer for the game here:

[UPDATE]

A big thanks to user DrifterInGreen for jogging my memory that I saw pictures a while ago for alternate costume options for Juliet that include both Saeko and Rei. A little further digging led me to even more anime based costumes for Juliet. The list I could find includes Haruna from IS THIS A ZOMBIE?, Shiro from DEADMAN WONDERLAND, and Chisusa Manyu from MANYU HIKEN-CHO. What bothers me though is that I've yet to be able to confirm if these costumes will be available outside of the Japanese version.

HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD is currently being published in the U.S. by Yen Press and the first six volumes are currently available to buy. LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW will be coming to the XBox 360 and PS3 this June.

Think Shoji Sato Only Co-Created HOTD? You're Wrong!

Most of the readers on Anime Vice and many other websites would only know artist and author Shoji Sato as one of the co-creators of hit manga series Highschool of the Dead (HOTD). Even Anime News Network only lists any of his credits for HOTD. What many of you might not know is that this wasn't his only piece of work. Just his most well known commercial success. He has written and illustrated several porn doujinshi, but he's also created other mainstream manga series on his own as both artist and writer.

On top of updating Shoji Sato's wiki page on Anime Vice with as much information as I could find and confirm. I went through and personally made manga profiles for all the mainstream mangas he has been a part of creating. Hell, even his Japanese wiki page doesn't have as much information on him as we now have on Anime Vice. The other mangas he has worked on are Futari Bocchi Densetsu, Fire Fire Fire, and Triage X.

Studying the Japanese language really helped me compile much of this information from both the Japanese version of wikipedia and Japanese Amazon.com. I've also been working on updating the franchise pages of Highschool of the Dead and Black Lagoon, but since those projects are not yet complete. More on those later.
