A series of bizarre deaths happen during the summer in the small, quiet town of Sotoba.
Shiki starts out as a mystery. Our main heroine called Megumi Shimizu lives in a boring little village called Sotoba. A new family has moved in to the out-of-place castly on the hills of Sotoba called Kanemasa. Megumi is excited and curious and takes a look. Later that night, Megumi hasn't returned home and a search party starts looking for her and discovers her body in the woods. She's
still alive but she has anemia. The doctor examines her and assures her parents that her case isn't anything serious.
However, Megumi dies some days afterward, shocking the doctor. And she isn't the only one. More and more people die of this new mysterious illness. Is it an epidemic? Or...
