A subtle yet powerful woman, one of Kenichi's masters and at times referred to as "The Maiden of Weapons".
Shigure spent her early life in borderline wilderness, remote from civilization with her master swordsmith father. Although this upbringing rendered her nameless and barely articulate, she also developed amazing reflexes and athleticism. Her father, while proud of his craft, developed deep remorse over the knowledge that his weapons were being used to kill people. Realizing that he could never provide a role model for his daughter, he hoped that he might instead provide her an example to be avoided. With this in mind, he forced a visiting martial arts master, Akisame to kill him. Members of the murderous organization Yomi arrived shortly afterwards and attempted to take Shigure's keepsake sword of her father's, but Akisame fended them off and the two left the mountain together. Akisame then granted her a name, and left her in the care of an old friend and weapons master who raised her to adulthood. When he died, Akisame brought her to a group of like-minded masters at Ryozanpaku.
Having spent many of her formative years in places with few people Shigure has grown up oblivious to many social norms and speech has never come easily to her. Despite this, she can be intuitively very intelligent and quite perceptive to people's natures or moods.
As with the other masters of Ryozanpaku, Shigure is opposed to using martial arts to kill, and actively fights the organization Yomi, who believe that killing is an integral part of the arts. In honor of her father's memory, she has spent many years seeking out the weapons he has created and retrieving them so that they can't be used to kill anymore.
Amongst those at Ryozanpaku she is closest to Akisame who has always been a sort of mentor figure to her, and Apachai, who shares some of her eccentricities about social norms and speech.
Her closest friend is the intelligent and often quite peculiar mouse, Touchimaru.
Shigure has achieved master status in the use of weaponry. In the Mightiest Disciple series a master is someone of essentially superhuman ability, being able to perform feats of strength, speed, athleticism or accuracy far beyond normal human limits. while her primary weapon is her sword, she is also known to excel with the use of other weapons like flails, and can even be formidable with something as innocuous as a wooden spoon.
