Shichika is Togame's partner on her quest to retrieve the twelve blades. Shichika grew up on an isolated island in Japan. As the current head of Kyotouryuu, a swordless fighting style designed to counter and defeat swordplay, he is the ideal candidate to assist Togame in her task.
Shichika grew up on an island, isolated away from the rest of the world with his father, Mutsue, and sister, Nanami. From an early age he was trained by his father to be the next head of the Kyotouryuu fighting style, a form of swordsmanship where the entire body serves as a blade.
Shichika is a character in the Katanagatari series of light novels written by Nishio Ishin, a popular Japanese writer, with illustrations by Take. She also appears in the anime series of the same name which was created by White Fox and directed by Keitaro Motonaga. Shichika, voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya, makes his first appearance in the anime series during Episode 1 "Plane, the Absolute".
One day, a mysterious woman named Togame arrives on the island with a proposition: in exchange for allowing Shichika to fall in love with her, Shichika will assist her in collecting the Klesha Bringers. Shichika decides to take her up on the offer and the two begin their journey.
Over the course of the series, Shichika and Togame's relationship becomes more and more involved until her death. After her death, Shichika goes on a bloody rampage in order to complete the task that Togame set out to do.
