A woman and a cat share an apartment.
She is a single young woman living alone in an apartment in the city. One rainy Spring day, She picks up a cat and brings it home in a cardboard box. From that day, the cat, which She names Chobi, becomes her constant companion. Chobi plays narrator throughout the entire story, describing every facet of She's life, from how She dresses herself to how She rises early each morning to go to work.
During the Summer while She is at work, Chobi spends his days with a female cat named Mimi. Mimi, whom he describes as easily spoiled, persists in asking Chobi to marry her; but each time he must refuse, stating his continued preference for She.
One Autumn day, Chobi observes She having a long phone conversation, at the end of which She breaks down in tears. Chobi feels for her deeply and stays by her side.
Finally it is Winter, and Chobi once more observes She rising early to catch the train to work. In the end, She and Chobi express in shared words their contentment with the life they have together: "This world, I think we like it."
