Age Change

When a character changes their age, either growing older or younger, and typically not simply by having time pass but as the result of some power or outside source.

Alien

Beings from another planet.

Bounty Hunter

Doing deals for large amounts of cash. Usually hunts people wanted by the law.

Breaking the 4th Wall

The act of Breaking the 4th Wall is when a character seem to show knowledge that they are in a fictional series. Normally by talking directly to the audience.

Cat

Feline animal with four legs and says "meow." Many are found hanging around animes and mangas.

Cosplay

The practice of dressing like characters from anime, manga, video games, and even novels, TV shows, celebrities, etc.

Cross-Dressing

The act of wearing clothes commonly associated with the opposite gender.

Dark Side

Not to be confused with "Evil Twin" which is a completely different person who is an evil version of a character, the Dark Side is an internal evil persona of a character. It is often seen as a figure that must be defeated to gain control over one's own body and gain extra powers.

A double or look-alike of another person.

Dreams and Nightmares

The imaginary events that goes on in your head when you are asleep. In some anime's they can bring important messages or to haunt a person.

End of the World

The extinction of all life on Earth or the destruction of Earth itself. Also known as; Armageddon, Ragnarok, and the Apocalypse.

Exaggerated Emotional Iconography

Common visual conventions seen in manga and anime to convey emotions, often for comical effect.

Fan Service

Fan Service is often a sexually provocative moment or pose that takes place in manga and anime. It usually has no real purpose to a story, and serves as a lurid visual.

Female Ninja

A Female Ninja in Japanese is referred to as a kunoichi. They were given special training that took advantage of a woman's natural gifts.

Flashback

Used frequently in Anime to either recap past events or provide a back story for a character, either their origin story or their off-screen training of new attack. Sometime and entire episode/chapter would be a entire flashback.

A ghost is a dead persons spirit that roams the earth usually attached to where they died or refusing to go to the after life until there are finished on earth.

An enormous creature generally the size of a building or larger.

Halloween

Halloween is a holiday celebrated on October 31st that was originally based upon a Celtic festival. It's more commonly celebrated in the United States by dressing up in costumes and Trick-or-Treating, but is also observed in other parts of the world.

Lecher

Characters who exercise their strong libidinous desires in unwholesome ways, such as peeping on the objects of their desire, making inappropriate comments, stealing underwear etc. Though typically middle-aged or elderly men with a penchant for young girls, there are probably a few dirty old women out there.

Seen in just about every form of anime at least at one point. The key component that makes Shounen popular among boys. As well as Ancient art in itself

Mech

Generally refers to a large, usually humanoid weapon-type robot, usually piloted from within.

Mermaids

A mythological creature that is half-human and half-fish. Are said to be related to the sirens.

Ninja

A ninja is a (typically Japanese) warrior, trained in martial arts fighting styles, and whom typically specializes in stealthy tactics and unorthodox arts of war.

Nosebleed

Bleeding from the nose, in manga/anime it mostly used as a sight gag that happens when a character is thinking or witnessing something perverted.

Parody

Parody is a style of work that closely resembles or mocks preexisting material or genres for comedic effect.

Police

The Police are a form of law enforcement officers that work on the local levels. Uniforms are normally in either blue or black.

Pop Idol

Pop Idols in Japan are classically females in their teens to early twenties. Not only are they singers, but they can also be models and general media personalities.

Science!

Sometimes the pursuit of scientific knowledge goes far beyond what is accepted in polite society. When normal Science can't get the job done, we turn to "Science!" and the perverse minds that practice it.

The Idea of a character transforming into a animal, monster, creature, demon, or other types of creatures.
