 My Bride is a Mermaid
My Bride is a Mermaid (aka Seto no Hanayome) is an anime adaptaion of the manga of the same name.  The show was produced by Gonzo and there are 26 episodes and 2 OVAs.  My Bride is a Mermaid is Romantic Comedy/Harem/Parody show.

Brief Overview

My Bride is a Mermaid tells the tale of  Nagasumi Michishio, a 2nd year in middle school.  One day during summer, Nagasumi started drowning while swimming at sea.  Soon to drown, he is saved by a mermaid.  The next day while at his grandma's house Nagasumi describes to his parents and grandma what the mermaid looks like.  Soon after that they see the described girl, except with legs.  Nagasumi learns that he was saved by San Seto and San asks to marry him.  All of a sudden mysterious men come out of no where and Nagasumi's mother recognizes them as the Yakuza.  The Yakuza ask if they will come back with San to their place and Nagasumi finds out that San is the daughter of the Yakuza boss.  Soon Nagasumi founds out from Gouzaburou, the Yakuza boss, that by mermaid law if a human sees a mermaid's true form, both of them must be killed.  The only solution for both Nagasumi and San to not be killed, they must marry each other.  From here San moves in with Nagasumi and they start going to school together.

During the course of the show we see meet other characters like Saru, Mawari, Kai, Luna, and Akeno and we see the wacky life of Nagasumi, which is outrageous.  It goes from a war between Luna's henchmen and San's henchmen to every woman falling in love with Nagasumi by sight after drinking a mermaid tonic.  There are many parodies as well like Nagasumi and Kai being chased by Luna's Papa which is making fun of The Terminator to Nagasumi looking like Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star.

My Thoughts

Two words: f'ing funny.  This has got to be one of the funniest shows I have ever seen and a very long time.  Every single episode made me laugh and that is what a comedy/parody show should do. This is also one of those shows that make you say "Yep, this was definitely made in Japan" and "Japan is f'ing crazy!"  While this is a romantic comedy, the big draw of the show is definitely the comedy and mad parody.  There are tons and tons of great moments like Nagasumi getting is first "kiss" from Masa to Gouzaburou playing a galage game to learn the ways of a Japanese teenage girl to get closer with his daughter.  I can list even more great moments, but I don't feel like typing them out since it's better to see it in person.  There were tons of great characters as well.  Nagasumi is definitely my favorite character of the show next to Masa, the afro cool guy of the Yakuza clan.

 Masa-san.
 Masa-san.
What else do I need to say?  The characters are great, the animation is great, and the comedy is top notch.  If you want to watch a show that will make you laugh your ass, watch this, it's fantastic.  If comedy/parody isn't your thing for some weird reason, stat far, far way from this then.  This show is mad over the top comedy and parody.

My Score - 5/5

Blog Thing

After watching My Bride is a Mermaid, I decided to go with a show with a little more action.  So next I'm going to watch Kaze no Stigma.  I've heard good things about the show so I thought I would check it out.  It's been on my radar for a while so, why not watch it now.   I was checking up some info about the show and I learned the creator of the show passed away last year.  Because of that, the light novel series in on hiatus.  What a bummer.  :(   It's always sad to see people die and let there work become unfinished.

What else am I doing?  I'm still reading through Negima, which is great.  I'm on chapter 31 so I'm still in the stuff that was touched on in the anime.  What else.  Well, I just got all the achievements in Bayonetta so now I need to find a new game to play.  I really want to get Darksiders, No More Heroes 2, and Tatsunoko vs Capcom.  If I had the money I would get all three of them, but I don't have much money at the moment.  What  I really need to play Zelda: Spirit Tracks.  I got the game for Christmas and I haven't even gotten to the 2nd dungeon yet.

I guess I'll close this thing out now.  See you guys on the forum!
