Anime Laws of Physics

Bathing Scene
Bathing Scenes, while occasionally meaningful to plot or character development, are generally excuses for fan service. |
|
|
Bishojo
Typical "beautiful girl" in anime and manga |
|
|
Cat
Feline animal with four legs and says "meow." Many are found hanging around animes and mangas. |
|
|
Chibi
Chibi means to be small in stature. In anime/manga the term is used for a character that is small in appearance and exaggerated features. |
|
|
Childhood Friend
The character has known the protagonist for a long time, typically all his/her life. If he/she's from the opposite gender there's a high chance he/she has a crush on the main character. |
|
|
Class Representative
The Class Representative is the person who is appointed as the spokesperson for a classroom in certain school committees. They also enforce the rules amongst the students in class. |

|
Comedy
Nearly every anime has a comedic moment here or there. Everyone likes to laugh. |
|
|
Convenient Censorship
Convenient Censorship such as steam, hair and beams of light are often used in anime and manga to show naked characters while obscuring their "naughty bits". |

Cooking
Someone or something to do with cooking. |
|
|
Cool character
Someone who remains calm in most of the situations. Even in the middle of battle. |
|
|
Date
Going on a date with... |
|
|
Delinquents
One who disobeys or breaks rules or laws, often used to describe younger individuals such as high schoolers who cause trouble. |
|
|
Drama
Drama is a concept used in story telling to invoke an emotional reaction from the audience by using serious themes; such as tragedy, suspense, and death. |
|
|
Drowning
Drowning is death from suffocation (asphyxia) caused by a liquid entering the lungs and preventing the absorption of oxygen leading to cerebral hypoxia and cardiac arrest. |

|
Eating
Perhaps the greatest past-time in Anime, eating is often done in more lighthearted moments as a source of humor or as a way of showing togetherness with characters, usually involving characters who can eat insane amounts of food and not gain an ounce. |

Engagement
An engagement is a promise to marriage. |
|
|
Exaggerated Emotional Iconography
Common visual conventions seen in manga and anime to convey emotions, often for comical effect. |
|
|
Fan Service
Fan Service is often a sexually provocative moment or pose that takes place in manga and anime. It usually has no real purpose to a story, and serves as a lurid visual. |
|
|
Father
Fatherhood as a concept. A man who has conceived or raised a child. |
|
|
First date
The first date of a (potential) couple. |
|
|
Flashback
Used frequently in Anime to either recap past events or provide a back story for a character, either their origin story or their off-screen training of new attack. Sometime and entire episode/chapter would be a entire flashback. |

Friendship

Grandmother
The mother of one's mother or father. |
|
|
Harem
The term "harem" is frequently used to describe manga and anime series that feature one man surrounded by a variety of female romantic candidates. Prototypical harems: Tenchi Muyo!, Love Hina. |

Human
Just your average person! |

Hypnosis
To influence or control someone using hypnosis. |
|
|
Japanese Festival
Japanese Festivals are referred to in Japan as 'Matsuri'. Festivals can be local affairs or even nationwide holidays. In many ways similar to Fairs in the US. |

Japanese Food
The food of Japan in its many flavors, from its own traditional cuisine (such as sushi) to its adaptations of other nations' foods (be cautious eating American-style Japanese pizza). |

Japanese Writing
Japanese Writing is the writing system of the Japanese language in the form of syllabaries. It consists of Kanji, hiragana, katakana, and romaji. |

|
Kissing
Kissing is the act of pressing your lips to the body of another person. This can be on the cheeks, head, hand, but more commonly to another person's lips. |
|
|
Lecher
Characters who exercise their strong libidinous desires in unwholesome ways, such as peeping on the objects of their desire, making inappropriate comments, stealing underwear etc. Though typically middle-aged or elderly men with a penchant for young girls, there are probably a few dirty old women out there. |

Love Triangle
Someone > Someone > Someone |

Lunar Faction
The Lunar Faction are the militant supporters of Lunar Edomae in Isono Middle High School. Lunar encourages their rampage though she pretends otherwise. |

|
Marriage
A couple who have made an official vow to stay together. |
|
|
Mermaids
A mythological creature that is half-human and half-fish. Are said to be related to the sirens. |
|
|
Mother
A woman who has given birth to or raised a child. |
|
|
Nosebleed
Bleeding from the nose, in manga/anime it mostly used as a sight gag that happens when a character is thinking or witnessing something perverted. |

|
Nurse
A Nurse is a regular hospital worker and Doctor's assistant. Assisting in the day to day care of patients, they can be male or female. |
|
|
Ojou
A character with an arrogant, bossy attitude, often rich and with some princess-like heritage. |
|
|
Parents
Someone or something that both has and raises children/offspring. |
|
|
Parody
Parody is a style of work that closely resembles or mocks preexisting material or genres for comedic effect. |
|
|
Police
The Police are a form of law enforcement officers that work on the local levels. Uniforms are normally in either blue or black. |
|
|
Pop Idol
Pop Idols in Japan are classically females in their teens to early twenties. Not only are they singers, but they can also be models and general media personalities. |
|
|
Post-Apocalypse
The world after the Big One (nuclear war, intergalactic invasion, super disease). Life sucks after the Apocalypse. |
|
|
Potential Love Interest
The character has a chance of ending up with the protagonist. It means either the protagonist or the heroine(or maybe both) have feelings for the other. |
|
|
Protagonist
The main character of a story or plot. Most forms of fiction have the protagonist as a hero but there are rare occasions with an evil or not-so-noble protagonist. |
|
|
Rivals
Rivals are competitor to someone. Unlike an enemy, rivals could have similar goals but disagree on the process. |
|
|
Romantic Drama
Romantic Drama is a concept used in series to create tensions of highs and lows in order to leave the audience in suspense over an outcome in a romance based series. |
|
|
Shounen
Literally means "boy" in Japanese, but is also used to refer to Japan's biggest manga demographic: pre-teen and teenage boys. |
