Selection is an anime episode of Death Note that was released on 05/22/2007

Mikami possesses the other Death Note and uses it to kill criminals. It follows of narration about his life and how did he get the Death Note. The flashback shows of Mikami having a strong sense of justice. In his school years, when each time he tries to defend someone, he often gets bullied. His mother is disappointed by his methods and Mikami wishes that his mother is dead, which is happened. He is horrified by this, but realizes that criminals must be punished. This explains of getting the job of being a prosecutor. He heard the news of Kira killing criminals and got the other Death Note.

Meanwhile, Light has discovered that his college classmate, Kiyomi Takada, has become Kira's new spokesperson. He calls her to tell her about his job of working as a detective to catch Kira and arranges themselves to meet in a hotel. Takada is unsure about the meeting, due to Misa, but Light reassures her that Misa is not intelligent enough to be his partner.

After announcing in the news that Kira kills criminals and people who refuses to do justice onto them, Takada meets Light, reuniting them ever since they met in episode 14, Friend. What they don't know is that the Kira Task Force is listening to them. Takada gets a call from Mikami, who orders her to pass the phone to Light, leading him to realize that he is Kira.

When Light wrote a message to the task force to remove the listening devices, they did so as they have no choice. Afterwards, Light tells Takada that he is Kira and tells Mikami that he is not allowed to tell Takada to know who he is. Takada is amazed by the revelation as Light tells her to become the goddess of his new world, which she agrees.

While walking, Light tells Matsuda his plan to pretend of dating Takada. That way, they can catch Kira. Meanwhile, Mikami starts to write in his Death Note and Ryuk leaves.
