Based off of a a Japanese manga series by Sakurako Gokurakuin.

Overview

This franchise is made up of one manga series, a Drama CD, two anime series, and a video game. The manga was written by Takao Yoshika it was released in December 2004 and it is still on going. The Drama CD was released in July of 2007. There where two anime adaptions directed by Keizo Kusakawa the first began airing in July 2008 and the second began airing July 2010. A video game for PlayStation 2 premiered in October of 2009.

Plot

Sekirei

In the beginning Minato has failed twice on the entrance exam and lives in an apartment. After meeting Musubi who is a fist type Sekirei that has yet to find a Ashikabi. From there he is drawn into the Sekirei Game but for him and his friends it isn't a game they want to play in.

The Game is a part of Hiroto Minaka's plan as It started when he went to an island that appeared because of a massive earthquake and found the Sekirei inside of a wrecked spaceship with one adult eight fetuses and 99 zygotes (fertilized eggs) inside so he used them to make a little game out of it all.

Will Minato and his friends be able to survive a game they never wanted to be a part of in the first place?

Sekirei Pure Engagement

Minato, Matsu, Homura, Kazehana, Kusano, and Tsukiumi are all faced with some more difficult challenges. As they struggle to protect each other from Bennitsubasa and Haihane members of the disciplinary squad from getting there revenge on Minato because Minato fought back against a Sekirei by himself and that made Bennitsubasa mad because she was the one that was hit.

Minato gains more Sekirei as the game closes in on the end. He wants to protect them as best as he can and he doesn't want for them to get hurt. They don't care about Hiroto Minaka's game and work together only to protect each other as well as others from a mad man's entertainment.

Main Characters

Minato Sahashi (佐橋 皆人)

Minato was just an average guy who was nothing special only his life takes a turn when he becomes an Ashikabi after an accidental meeting with Musubi, Sekirei number 88. Although he feels he is nothing special he has sworn to protect his Sekirei.

Minato's Sekirei

Musubi is Minato's first Sekirei. She falls on him while running from Hikari and Hibiki. She has a bubbly personality and very little modesty although she is working on it.

Kusano (草野) Sekirei #108

Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa , Tia Ballard

Kusano commonly referred to as "Kuu", is the youngest of Minato's Sekirei, she has a sibling-like relationship with #107 Shiina despite the fact that his power is the natural opposite of hers. She wants to be Minato's wife some day. She is known as "Green Girl" by some.

Matsu (松)Sekirei #02

Voiced by: Aya Endo , Colleen Clinkenbeard

Matsu has genius-level hacking skills. She is somewhat agoraphobic She meets and claims Minato as her Ashikabi at the boarding house. She prefers to watch the drama unfold as appose to participating in it although at first she fought for Minato.

Tsukiumi (月海) Sekirei #09

Voiced by: Marina Inoue, Lydia Mackay

"This water represent my pledge. Purify the evil residing in my Akishabi."

Tsukiumi first appeared to Minato Sahashi in a dream saying that she would kill him due to her hatred of all Ashikabi. Minato changes her mind. She speaks old world Japanese.

Kazehana (風花) Sekirei #03

"Winds of my pact, blow away my Ashikabi's dark clouds!"

Kazehana's first encounter with Minato was to stumble into his bed in a drunken stupor after she saves Uzume. She is laid back and holds her feelings back for Minato at first

Homura (焔) Sekirei #06

"These are the flame of my pledge, Burn the karma of my Ashikabi"

Homura the self-titled "Sekirei Guardian" who protects the un-winged Sekirei during the first two stages. He is the last to find his Ashikabi.

Name: Miya Asama (浅間 美哉) Sekirei #00, renumbered #01

Miya Asama is the landlady of the Izumo Inn and the oldest Sekirei. Takehito, her husband and supposed Ashikabi, worked at MBI as a researcher, but died. She allows anyone who needs a place to move in and dosn't allow fighting on the grounds of her Inn. When crossed she is scary with a demon like face hovering over her. She cares about all the people in her rag tag family and is extremely powerful.

Name: Kaoru Seo (瀬尾 香)

Kaoru Seo is the Ashikabi of Hikari and Hibiki. He constantly begs off of people. He works as a freelancer, whose motto is "We solve their problem with a price" and occasionally takes construction work. He was old friends with Miya's husband and often shows up at the Inn to beg food which embarrasses his Sekirei and they are constantly apologizing for him. He dislikes the way MBI runs things.

Kaoru's Seikirei

Hikari (光) Sekirei #11

Hikari is a twin and they both have power over electricity and she is always seen in purple. Kauru is her Ashikabi. They where the ones chasing Musubi when she ran into Minato. They target unwinged Sekirei but help out Minato's group from time to time.

Hibiki (響) Sekirei #12

Hibiki is Hikari's twin they share an ashikabi although the are constantly yelling at him for being a mooch they will not allow him to have other Sekirei.

Hiroto Minaka is chairman and founder of MBI.

Takami Sahashi (佐橋 高美)

Takami Sahashi is the mother of Minato and Yukari as well as MBI's head researcher a fact which she lies about to Minato.

Takehito Asama (浅間 建人)

Takehito Asama is a researcher at MBI he discoved the winging system, Norito , and the existence of the Ashikabi.

Natsuo Ichinomi (壱ノ宮 夏朗)

Natsuo Ichinomi is the Ashikabi of all three members of the third Discipline Squad and works as a clerk in MBI's pharmaceutical department.

Discipline Squad

Karasuba (鴉羽) Sekirei #04

Karasuba is the oldest member of the discipline squad as well as its leader. She fights with the nodachi.

Haihane (灰翅) Sekirei #104

Haihane is a member of the Third Discipline Squad and she fights with her gauntlets that have scythe-like claws for fingers.

Benitsubasa (紅翼) Sekirei #105

Voiced by: Shizuka Itō , Anita Neukar

Benitsubasa is a member of the Third Discipline Squad and noted to be the most aggressive and fights only with her hands.

Yume was the original leader of the Third Discipline Squad she fought with light-based powers as well as super strength and hand-to-hand combat.

Hayato Mikogami (御子上 隼人)

Hayato Mikogami is the 15 year old Ashikabi that runs South City he seems to have multiple personalities his attitude and actions switch around.

Mutsu is one of the only few male Sekirei he carries a sword as a weapon but rarely uses it other than to create shock waves.

Akitsu the "Discarded Number" and possibly a spontaneously-winged Sekirei, who can't be winged by an Ashikabi

Taki a Sekirei with the power to create a smoke screen in order to confuse and disorient an opponent.

Yomi the first to lose the fight to Musibi in the fight over the "Green Girl" she fought with a scythe.

East City

Izumi Higa (氷峨 泉)

Izumi Higa is the Ashikabi controlling the eastern part of the city he has little morals and can be a cruel and forceful Ashikabi.

Kakizaki (柿崎)

Kakizaki is Higa's "secretary" and is also an Ashikabi. He often acts as Higa's henchman carrying out his orders without question.

Uzume (鈿女) Sekirei #10

Uzume's Uzume's Ashikabi is a young girl named Chiho Hidaka is an extremely sick little girl whom Uzume cares for.

Toyotama (胡蝶) Sekirei #22

Toyotama is responsible for eliminating Uzume from the Sekirei Plan in the anime and is one of Higa's Sekirei, she fights with a spear.

Katsuragi (葛城) Sekirei #86

Katauragi is one of Higa's Sekirei she lost her crest to Musubi in the fight to acquire Humura. She is a hand to hand fighter.

Oriha (織刃) Sekirei #101

"These flying gears represent my pledge! Cut away the enemies before my Ashikabi!"

Oriha another of Higa's Sekirei fought Tsukiumi while trying to acquire Homura for Higa. She fights using bladed disks.

West

Nishi Sanada (真田 西)

Nishi Sanada is the Ashikabi controlling the western part of the city. He is overly protective of his Sekirei and cares for them deeply despite his rough appearance the group travels around on his motorcycle.

Kuzuri is one of Nishi's Sekirei she as well as the others seem to enjoy fighting for the sake of fighting.

Kujika another of Nishi's Sekirei the group as a whole fight in hand to hand.

Shijime the third of Nishi's Sekirei the group tends to easily get bored but are fiercly protective of eachother.

Yukari Sahashi is Minato's younger sister. She finds her Sekirei Shina while on her way to pay a visit to her brother.

Shiina Yukari's Sekirei who is searching for Kusano, who he has a sibling-like relationship with.

Haruka Shigi is a 19 year-old ronin college student who has a weak Sekirei who' wants nothing to do with the games as his Sekirei can't fight and looks to escape the city.

Kuno (久能) Sekirei #95

Kuno a weak Sekirei who's power is her voice but if used to long can harm her. She feels inferior to all the other sekirei as the are more developed than her.

Sekirei began as a manga series written by Takao Yoshioka and published by Square Enix which started serialization in December 3, 2004 and is still ongoing. As of July 2012, 13 tankōbon volumes have been released.

Anime

Sekirei (July 2008 - September 2008)

Sekirei has been adapted into two anime the first 12-episode anime series adaptation produced by the animation studio Seven Arcs and directed by Keizō Kusakawa aired in Japan between July 2 and September 17, 2008 and covers roughly the first fifty-one chapters of the series.

Sekirei: Pure Engagement (July 2010 - June 2010)

A second season entitled Sekirei: Pure Engagement began airing on July 4, 2010. The first episode of Sekirei: Pure Engagement was pre-aired on June 13, 2010

Video Game

Sekirei: Gifts from the Future (2009)

A video game for PlayStation 2 entitled Sekirei: Gifts from the Future was released on October 29, 2009 by Alchemist in limited and regular editions. The limited edition version was bundled with figures of Musubi and Tsukiumi with Kusano in a panda suit, a 40-minute drama CD, and an illustration of Matsu. Four new characters were created by Alchemist consisting of two Sekirei, one Ashikabi and a baby as video game-only characters.
