Samurai 7

Based on the classic film “7 Samurai” by Akira Kurosawa, Samurai 7 follows the story of 7 samurai warriors who are recruited by the priestess of the rice village to defeat the bandits known as the Nobuseri who steal their rice and kidnap their women and children.

The series has a very different style from the movie, adding mechas, robot samurais and futuristic elements to the story. Plus, the inclusion of 4 new characters.

Characters

Samurai

• Shimada Kambei: A wise veteran samurai and the first one to be hired. He’s the leader of the group and the one who plans the strategies.
• Shichiroji: Fought alongside Kambei in the great war. After that he lived a peaceful life with his girlfriend before joining Kambei in battle once more. 
• Gorobei Katayama: A master samurai who became an entertainer after fighting the war. He becomes good friends with Kambei, who calls him his “left hand”.
• Kikuchiyo: A robot samurai who is often teased by his lack of skill. Also serves as comedic relief.
• Heihachi Hayashida: A great samurai and mechanic, he is rather peaceful and prefers eating to fighting.
• Kyuzo: A cold hearted assassin who used to work for Ukyo. He joins the group with the hope of fighting Kambei one day but is accidentally killed by Katsushiro.
• Katsushiro Okamoto: A young warrior without skill or experience, he wishes to be Kambei’s student and even calls him sensei all the time. His skills grow through the course of the series.

Villagers:

• Kirara: The water priestess of Kanna. She falls in love with Kambei, ignoring Katsushiro’s feelings towards her.
• Komachi: Kirara’s little sister, she develops a friendship with Kikuchiyo and even asks him to marry her when she grows up.
• Rikichi: A desperate man who is trying to find his wife, captured by the Nobuseri. He helps Kirara and Komachi to locate the samurais.
