Sakuya is a high school girl that Tenchi meets in Tokyo when he moves to the city to train to become a Shinto priest like his grandfather on "Tenchi in Tokyo." He becomes friends with her which in this case, all the students in their class assume both of them secretly love each other and try to set the two of them up on a date. Sakuya has a secret crush on Tenchi as she tries to express this to him at first, but her feelings for Tenchi come to question when she sees Tenchi on his bogus date with Ryoko. Eventually, Tenchi settles this problem with her thanks to some romantic advice from his father as he explains to her that he isn't ready to express his true feelings to her which he might express sometime later in the near future. Eventually, Tenchi and Sakuya start their relationship at the school carnival after Tenchi has a dispute with the girls who came to check on him.
Sakuya is actually a creation of Yugi who was created to occupy Tenchi in her master plan to free herself from the seal which kept her from rising to the surface. Since Sakuya is a part of Yugi, she has no actual parents or memories of the past. Sakuya questions herself about these aspects to her when Tenchi asks about them since both are now at the high point of their relationship and knowing each other a bit more. Sakuya's existence is maintained by a crystal which Yugi created. When Yugi shatters the crystal, none of her old friends remember her anymore. However, she still physically exists to Tenchi until she gets consumed by Yugi becoming a part of the mutant girl once again. Sakuya's consciousness makes one final appearance later in the series to help Tenchi break free of Yugi's illusion during their final battle.
