Toei Talks Sailor Moon Revival, Kinda Sorta Not Really?

 "Wait, what?"
 "Wait, what?"
I have kind of an odd history with Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: it was my gateway anime, and I was hardcore into it, knew everything even though I'd only watched what I could see on TV, all that jazz...but about a year or so later I was pretty well over it and on to other anime and couldn't have cared less. Even now I find myself more excited about WRITING about a Sailor Moon revival than the revival itself.

Anime Nation reports on a quote from Toei Animation Europe director general Kanji Kazahaya, who in discussing the series returning to TV broadcast in Italy says that "Italy is the ideal country to initiate a global re-launch of the classic Japanese animated series such as 'Sailor Moon.'"

That "such as," combined with no other word from Toei about a Sailor Moon revival, means that there's more than enough doubt as to whether the magical girl show itself will see a return, although there are new licenses for Dragon Ball and Digimon Frontier in Chile and Brazil, among other global movements.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I would sit down for a rebroadcast of Sailor Moon. I'd actually be more interested in a (well-done) remake of the anime than in the original-- perhaps one that followed some of the manga stuff more closely (story-wise it was mostly similar to the anime, but as is often the case, some stuff towards the end got pretty fuzzy). Maybe sort of like Dragon Ball Kai, except completely reanimated: just the Sailor Moon story without the filler/monster-of-the-week stuff (which was enjoyable, mind, I'm just yearning for something different).

I don't know, how about you? Any Sailor Moon-ies around?

Sure a remake would be great... I would love it. Didn't I hear about the original Japanese cast getting together on an anniversary somewhere on the grapevine last year though?

Hardcore fan as well. I'd be willing to sit down to watch a re-broadcast of Sailor Moon on a few conditions:
1) Not edited!! Please, leave the story alone. I think the kiddies can handle it
1b) They're not cousins!! I don't know how much I can stress this. I think people can handle the truth here
1c) I guess this could come under the subject of editing but leave the opening/ending songs in Japanese. Subtitle them and move on.
2) Do a recast of the dubbing. Maybe a mix of old and new voices.
3) Cut down on *some* of the filler eps. Unlike Dragonball, the manga of Sailor Moon is rather short and quick. Length can be cut down but I think the story can use some filler eps. Like Slayers.
 4) Give us Stars!!! I want to see it air in Canada/North America!

Agree? Disagree?

I'd love to see a legitimate release of Sailor Stars, but I doubt I'd sit through a rebroadcast of the series. I can pull out the DVDs if I want to see the first four seasons.

I would be interested in seeing a re-make, though.

A rebroadcast could be fun; I'd love to get up in the money or watch in the afternoon an episode of Sailor Moon since I never got to as a kid (except in summer whenever I could find what channel it was on). However, I'm with @raintenshi: and almost all the stipulations. I actually like some of the dub songs like "Carry On" and "Rainy Day Man." I don't mind the English opening, but dear God PLEASE NOT THE DUB OF AI NO SENSHI a.k.a. "Tear Our Hearts in Two." PLEEEEEAAAASSSSE give us Stars complete with lesbian and gender changing goodness.

That being said, I'd love it even more if the anime was redone to be closer to the manga. Sailor Saturn really got the shaft when it came to the anime. I'd like to see some of the darker themes addressed and see some of the senshi go bad. Of all the seasons, I think SuperS really needs a do over; I really liked this arc in the manga, but the anime just butchered it and made it kinda boring.  And speaking of redoing things, how about some GOOD FIGURES?! Sailor Moon had really crappy, low-end Barbie dolls and few ugly tiny figures---only exception are the chibi ones.  I personally would kill for some pretty figmas.

it was one of my first animes. I remember it fondly lol. But i feel as though the Monster-of-the-week Was  a big part of the show. i actually got most of the morals i have now from those (if i ever have kids i'm totally Exposing them to it.)

I think it was one of my first anime experiences too, but it never did anything for me. It was always on in the morning about 15 min before i would wake up, so i never got to watch any of the full episodes. Plus i always heard that the Japanese version had full on boobies that got censored for the Canadian release of it, so i was always mad that i never got to see cartoon boobies.

On one of the forum sites I frequent - RPG.net - one of the posters there is doing a Where I Watch of *all* of Sailor Moon which is pretty good. Part 1 can be found here.

Gia: This astrologer actually predicted a comeback for Sailor Moon a few days ago (scroll down to media).

I'd like for a rerelease of the series on DVD; really regret not picking it up when I had the chance. As mentioned I'd like to see an undedited release of not only Sailor Stars,  but also Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (the Sailor Moon live action series). Sailor moon was one of my earlier exposures to anime, and my first magical girl series.

This was my first real anime too, and it was perhaps the single reason I started drawing. I wanted to be able to draw cool and cute characters like those in this series. With that said, my style didn't really end up resembling Sailor Moon at all.

Mmm.... I wonder what this will turn out to be.

Like Count_Zero I too watch 200 episodes of Sailor Moon (of the subs)  as welll 1 movie, & still have 2 more to go (why not saw the rest of the show) . Why, no real reason, just to see why all the girls where so crazy about. Turns out I just could of gone with my common since reasoning of; they all watch it as their first anime so... ya. But over all not bad. But it crazy as you watch as the animation changes and other things.
The company could do what they did with DBZ and update it and release again. It worked once it could work again.

LOVED this anime, it was my first anime I ever got into when I was about.... eight or nine years old. I would get up extra early every day before school would start to watch it xD

A remake though, would be AWESOME with better voice actors please xP I wasnt too fond of Amy's voice as well as Lita's. >_> I'm just afraid a remake, would also mean skimpy outfits and a new story line will ruin the fond memories i have of the series.

I would love if they do the revival.two things would be perfect for it.
1.just a redub of all the episodes and remastering of it.
2.if they made another series of it,like they did with FMA Brotherhood.maybe Sailor Moon:Sisterhood.lol.but for the voices,i like ami and litas english voice, sorry feral.lol.
