Imagine my surprise as I was browsing for pictures of Saeko Busujima that I stumbled on this illustration by Shouji Sato, artist on HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD, of the star of LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW, Juliet Starling, along with Saeko and Rei Miyamoto, two of the stars from H.O.T.D..
I was originally pretty confused about this cross promotion. Other than they are both about chopping zombies up. I didn't see any other connection. I know Dragon Age magazine, where H.O.T.D. is originally serialized, loves to put Saeko and Rei on the covers despite the series being on hiatus. It wasn't until I paid more attention to the LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW trailer that it all fell into place. H.O.T.D. is published by Kadokawa. LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW is being published by Kadokawa Games.
Oh yeah, if you didn't know, That's the living-disembodied head of Juliet Starling boyfriend, Nick, tied to her belt. It all makes more sense once you realize this is another Suda 51 project. You can check out a trailer for the game here:
A big thanks to user DrifterInGreen for jogging my memory that I saw pictures a while ago for alternate costume options for Juliet that include both Saeko and Rei. A little further digging led me to even more anime based costumes for Juliet. The list I could find includes Haruna from IS THIS A ZOMBIE?, Shiro from DEADMAN WONDERLAND, and Chisusa Manyu from MANYU HIKEN-CHO. What bothers me though is that I've yet to be able to confirm if these costumes will be available outside of the Japanese version.
HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD is currently being published in the U.S. by Yen Press and the first six volumes are currently available to buy. LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW will be coming to the XBox 360 and PS3 this June.
