Kadokawa Promotes Lollipop Chainsaw with Highschool of the Dead

Imagine my surprise as I was browsing for pictures of Saeko Busujima that I stumbled on this illustration by Shouji Sato, artist on HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD, of the star of LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW, Juliet Starling, along with Saeko and Rei Miyamoto, two of the stars from H.O.T.D..

I was originally pretty confused about this cross promotion. Other than they are both about chopping zombies up. I didn't see any other connection. I know Dragon Age magazine, where H.O.T.D. is originally serialized, loves to put Saeko and Rei on the covers despite the series being on hiatus. It wasn't until I paid more attention to the LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW trailer that it all fell into place. H.O.T.D. is published by Kadokawa. LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW is being published by Kadokawa Games.

Oh yeah, if you didn't know, That's the living-disembodied head of Juliet Starling boyfriend, Nick, tied to her belt. It all makes more sense once you realize this is another Suda 51 project. You can check out a trailer for the game here:

[UPDATE]

A big thanks to user DrifterInGreen for jogging my memory that I saw pictures a while ago for alternate costume options for Juliet that include both Saeko and Rei. A little further digging led me to even more anime based costumes for Juliet. The list I could find includes Haruna from IS THIS A ZOMBIE?, Shiro from DEADMAN WONDERLAND, and Chisusa Manyu from MANYU HIKEN-CHO. What bothers me though is that I've yet to be able to confirm if these costumes will be available outside of the Japanese version.

HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD is currently being published in the U.S. by Yen Press and the first six volumes are currently available to buy. LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW will be coming to the XBox 360 and PS3 this June.

How can I say no to HER?
How can I say no to HER?
Yesterday, I went into high gear and formatted all the volumes of Highschool of the Dead (currently 7) and updated the entire cast to the volumes they appear in. Anime Vice is now as up to date as any website can be on that front. While I was at it, I created profiles for all named characters in the series, and I actually completed the profile for my series favorite, Saeko Busujima. I've checked out the character profile on many other fan based websites, and none of them have this level of detail. Even the big HOTD fan wikia is very vague and filled with speculation. The profile I put together still needs a bit more refinement and I need to check my grammar in a few places. This is as up to date to the series events to the latest chapters. The only thing holding the page back is it's positioning on Google. You search her name and all these other sites appear, but have nearly no real information on her. MyAnimeList is number two and that's only sourcing wikipedia. She's a very popular character in that series and it could mean some great traffic with the soon to be released HOTD DVD/Blu-ray release later this month.

It was a while back that well produced AMVs(animated music video) used to be spotlighted on the front pages of Anime Vice on Wednesday. They are a part of the anime culture, and I thought showing off a new one I find once a week could be fun for the community. AMVs work as a great source for trailers. Too often official trailers never give you much of any idea of what the series is really like. More so with U.S. produced trailers.

I personally really enjoy a good AMV when it's well produced. I've been collecting some of my favorites on youtube account's Favorites section since I first joined. Good image quality and the song matches up with the song's theme. It just sucks out AMVs often get removed over copyright issues. I can understand removing whole episodes of pirated animes, but removing AMVs made by fans just seems like a real stick-up-the-ass move.

What makes a bad AMV for me is when the song is grossly overplayed. Any AMV with any songs from Linkin' Park or Evanesence is automatically going to turn me off. I swear, how many bloody AMVs do there need to be with "In the End" or "Bring Me to Life"? It's also not good if the same scene is used more than once in an AMV. It shows poor editing. I know a lot of people hate subtitles in AMVs. I can understand that, but i don't mind them too much.

Highschool of the Dead - Saeko Busujima

The first AMV I'm sharing with you this week is one for Saeko Busujima form the series Highschool of the Dead. I've recently updated and formatted her Anime Vice profile to the wiki style guide that is being used. I also recently got my first volume of the manga that was released in the U.S. in January. So far, Saeko has been one of my favorite characters.

The series is great in manga form, but after I saw this AMV. I really want this series to hurry up and come to DVD. Check out this AMV and get an idea of what Highschool of the Dead has to offer.
