Ryuko Matoi is a nomadic transfer student who is trying to find her father's killer. Her search leads her to join Honnouji Academy.
Ryuko's father, Isshin, was murdered by an unknown woman that she barely caught a glimpse of as she fled the scene. What his killer did leave behind was half of a giant pair of red scissors. Bent on finding this woman, Ryuko sets out in search of the owner of the other half of the Scissor Blade.
Ryuko Matoi is the protagonist of the Kill la Kill anime series that was produced by Trigger. It's directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima. The character design was done by Sushio. The series first began in October 3, 2010.
Ryuko's journey and battles eventually led her to Honnouji Academy. After befriending Mako Mankanshoku she approached the student council president Satsuki Kiryuin with the Scissor blade. Despite seeing such a unique weapon, Satsuki was the only one not surprised. Ryuko's further attempt to break answers out of Satsuki were thwarted by Takaharu Fukuroda, the boxing club captain. She suffered a complete defeat thanks to Takaharu's two-star goku uniform. She was forced to run and wondered back to her home.
While wallowing in defeat in the ruins of her old house, the floor opened up from under her, and she fell through to a large room filled with clothes. Inadvertently, the blood from her opened wound awoke a living sailor uniform that forced itself upon her. Upon learning the power it had and that it was a creation of her father, she named it Senketsu. Together they sneaked back into Honnouji Academy to rescue Mako. This time, Takaharu's punches were completely ineffective to Senketsu's armor. She easily defeated him, and sent him flying toward the watching Satsuki.
She had wanted to question Satsuki further, but Senketsu warned her she was running short on blood. After a retreat, she was taken in by Mako's family. The next day, Ryuko defended Mako from Omiko Hakodate, tennis club captain; but she was unable to awaken Senketsu. She was knocked into the drain and rescued by Aikuro Mikisugi, her home room teacher. He taught her that Senketsu needed her blood to awaken. He gave her a seki tekko glove to draw the blood she'd need in her future battles.
In Ryuko's rematch with Omiko, she was forced to play by the rules of tennis. It wasn't that she lacked power.after destroying her own racket. She figured out that she could use the handle of the scissor blade with cloth from Senketsu as a racket. With a second victory, Satsuki finally appeared before her. Their sword duel was short lived as she was running low on blood, and she was forced to retreat from the fight.
When Ryuko returned to school the next day, she was approached personally by Satsuki. This time she revealed she had her own kamui, Junketsu. Satsuki now grossly outclassed Ryuko in battle. However, she discovered that once she started treating Senketsu like a part of her body he needed far less blood to produce even greater power. Ryuko and Satsuki had a devistating battle that ended in a stalemate. Satsuki agreed to a rematch to answer her questions if Ryuko could defeat all the members of Honnouji's Student Council.
Ryuko has shown rather remarkable skill using the scissor blade as a sword. It's unknown where she was trained in sword fighting.
What Ryuko wields is only one half of the scissors. It was what was left behind by the killer of her father. She fights with it as her sword as she searches for the owner of the other half.
Senketsu is a kamui, a type of school uniform made of 100% Life Fibers, that Ryuko Matoi wears. He was created by Ryuko's father but with little memory of its past. She discovered it buried under the ruins of her former home. Though it normally appears to be a less-than-average school uniform, it can transform into an incredibly powerful suit of armor that boosts her strength and speed. The cost of this power is that he needs to draw out Ryuko's blood.
However, Ryuko is less than happy with how revealing it can be when transformed. It was reluctance that Ryuko felt while wearing Senketsu that led to rapid blood loss. It wasn't until she started treating it as part of her own skin that she discovered it required far less blood and gave her even more power. This ability is called Life Fiber Synchronize - Kamui Senketsu (「人衣一体」神衣・鮮血, "Jin'i Ittai" Kamui Senketsu). The power and size of Senketsu also increased after she learned to synchronize with him.
Senketsu Senjin (鮮血閃刃, Senketsu Senjin）
Senketsu Shippu (鮮血疾風, Senketsu Shippū）
Senketsu Mubyoshi (鮮血無拍子, Senketsu Mubyōshi）
Sen-i-Soshitsu (戦維喪失, Sen-i-Sōshitsu)
The Seki Tekko is a glove that was given to her by Aikuro Mikisugi. This glove is designed to pierce her body and draw blood to awaken Senketsu.
