Welcome to the Robotic;Notes anime discussion thread! For those who are new, here's a synopsis.

Plot

Genre: Mech, Science Fiction,

Chuuoutanegashima High School's Robot Research Club is in danger of losing its club status. Kaito Yashio, one of only two members, is only obsessed with robot fighing games, showing no interest in the Robo Club even it this situation. The reckless, useless club head, Akiho Senomiya, aims to complete a giant robot, struggling hard to avoid losing the club's stat. Then, one day, Kaito discovers the A.R. annotation that becomes the Kimishima Report. Written in that report is the indictment of someone named Kou Kimishima's conspiracy involving the world.

Why You Should Try This Show?

If you love this show and have a cool recommendation for new fans, I'll put down your recommendations.

Taka:

For fans of Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head, you should definitely watch this series.

Acura_Max:

Robotics;Notes is one of the best shows this season. Created by the people who brought you Steins;Gate, Robotics;Notes is about a underdog robot club that is trying to build a giant robot in order to compete in a giant robot fighting competition. The show is really well animated and has a plot that looks like its going to take the viewer through some twists and turns. More importantly, the show is character driven and boasts a really likable cast with great chemistry.

I forgot that this was premiering today, but I shall watch right now. For it is the choice of Steins;Gate!!!!

Just saw episode one. Here are some thoughts:

Thoughts

  • It looks like a light story about an underdog type of club. However, Steins;Gate was pretty light at the beginning, but became much darker later. Anyway, I can dig this.
  • The two main characters make nice foils for each other. Akiho seems energetic and passionate, while Kaito seems calm and disinterested. Together they really emphasize each other's traits.
  • Akiho looks like she has been spending too much time with Okabe, the main character from Steins;Gate. I think she even quotes him in the episode when she pulls out her glasses, but they always refer to the creator of the quote as "he". Chances are likely that the two have met somewhere before. Someone on the internet also made a comment about seeing Okabe in one of the Robotics;Notes promos. Luckily I was able to get a screenshot of that moment. if you look in the picture below, the man driving the bus has a similar hairstyle to okabe and he has some chin hair. You can also see that he is wearing some kind of coat. It could be Okabe's lab coat. Based on this it is probably likely that Akiho is referring to Okabe and it might mean that Okabe might make a cameo visit. If you remember that the landlord's daughter from Steins;Gate will be a main character in this show, the possibility of Okabe making a cameo is not far off.
  • It looks like the creators of Steins;Gate are promoting a new drink. Whether this green drink, it will sell whether it is fictional or not. If it's fictional someone will make the drink. You can bet on that.

Man, I need to try this show. I haven't watch Steins;Gate or Chaos;Head yet. It doesn't matter, right?

@takashichea: All of the series are independent of each other. So you don't need to watch the other series, but you will miss the references (like when Akiho pulls out her glasses. That is a reference to scenes when Okabe pulls out his cell phone and says something weird).

@Acura_Max: @Elfenlied1012:

All right. I tried it. It was not bad. Forgive me, I didn't catch the characters' names.

Cat Girl Fetish
Cat Girl Fetish

I really love that element. Plus, Kaito has a weird cat girl fetish.

@takashichea: I would say that cat fetish was a bit of fan service for the otaku crowd. They did this alot in Steins;Gate too. In fact, one character in Steins;Gate seemed obsessed with dressing like a cat. Something tells me we won't see the traditional fan service in this anime. When Akiho was under that giant robot, that was a perfect opportunity for a panty shot, but they decided not to do one. It seems like it simply is not the studio's style. In Steins;Gate, counted about 2 scenes at the most in terms of traditional fan service.

By the way, thanks again for the passes. Watching Crunchyroll with full access has been a dream.

@Acura_Max:

Oh I see. I like how Akiho is so passionate about her anime. I hope to see some cool robot fights later in the anime. I'm somewhat hooked on to the show, and I'll continue watching it.

I'm glad you're enjoying Crunchyroll's guest pass and your contributions to the discussion thread.

Another fantastic episode of Robotics;Notes. So far, it looks like the creators of Steins;Gate have another winner. In this episode, Akiho and Kaito try rebuild an old hobby robot, but find that fixing the robot will be a tough challenge.

Episode 2

  • I've said this once before, but Akiho and Kaito have excellent chemistry. It could just be 30 minutes of them talking together, and I would not be bored.
  • Many people were pretty annoyed by Kaito's indifference. In this episode, we see that although he may seem apathetic, Kaito has a good heart. There was this one scene where said that the only reason he joined the club was play video games in a quiet environment. Then in the next scene, we see him take one for the team.
Cheese and passion fruit in a pork bun. This the kind of food you would find in hell.

  • Once again, the creators of Robotics;Notes have decided not to take advantage of a scene that could have easily been turned into fan service.
Not a panty in sight

  • Although, I knew that Akiho had "elephant-mouse syndrome," I still found the ending to be quite touching.

Oh damn, I need to watch Robotic;Notes episode 2. I always know Kaito and Akiho had a thing for each other. It's always the main girl and guy who are always together.

@Acura_Max:

I love that the creators are not putting fan service unlike some shows, Sket Dance. A good show like this doesn't need fan service to boost its ratings.

I look up elephant-mouse syndrome, and it was not a real illness. It was the first time I see Akiho all mellow.

@takashichea: Sket Dance has fan service? I didn't know that. episode brought some more questions to the table. I hope they answer some soon. It looks like Frau will be making an appearance in the next episode. So far, the characters are assuming that she is a dude, but they will be in for a surprise. It also looks like this key chain will play some important part in the story. There is also the mystery woman that appears at the end. She seems to have some kind of connection to Akiho. Something tells me that this could be Akiho's mother. I don't think it is her sister, Misa. All the characters seem to talk about Misa as if she is dead. Whether happened 9 years ago, it seems like it was huge. It also seems to have affected the Robotics club. Nine years ago to was able to win a competition and build part of a robot. Then all of a sudden, the club is cut down to two people. That is a bit strange.

@Acura_Max:

I'm curious about what happened to Akiho's sister, too. I think there's something dark underneath this innocent anime.

Edit:

My gut tells me.

@Acura_Max:

I'm remodeling the discussion threads for this season after adding Little Busters, Shin Sekai Yori, and Jormungand Perfect Order. I can't do Psycho Pass due to the flood warning.

Do you have a cool blurb about this show to recommend this to new fans?

What's the twist or cool crazy part to this show?

Chaos;Head kicked off as a weird murder prediction thing and Steins;Gate started off with time travel paradoxes and stuff. What's the crazy thing for this series? All I've found is that it's a show about kids in a club trying to stop the club from being closed... which sounds more like YuruYuri or K-on than what I'd expect from the creative minds behind C;H and S;G.

@sickVisionz:

That sounds cool! After I finished this show, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and watch Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate. As for the hook, so far it's just a club bent on getting their reputation up. Though, there is that mysterious incident that occurred years ago that makes me wonder what the happened to Akiho and Kaito.

In episode four, there is a scene where Misa says " Go, Hot Dog, Go!" Then Misa tells Kaito that he should be a man with the "The Right Stuff." It turns out there really is a movie called "The Right Stuff" and one of the most memorable quotes from that movie is "Go, Hot Dog, Go!"

I haven't able to catch up on Robotic;Notes. I need to watch ep. 4 and 5.

@sickVisionz:

When you get to episode 5, you'll see Robotic;Notes taking on something massive. After this series, I'll check out Stein;Gates and Chaos;Heads.

@Acura_Max:

You should write that reference on the Points of Interest.

What we do with Akiho's glasses scene?

Akiho pulls out her glasses. That is a reference to scenes when Okabe pulls out his cell phone and says something weird

Is there like a concept name for it? Akiho's Epiphany or something. If not, we just list it in the points of interest sections or her character page. I won't get it since I haven't watch the previous anime series.

Edit:

Episode 4

Sumio: If you come back with a girl who has bigger boobs, I sponsor your club
Sumio: If you come back with a girl who has bigger boobs, I sponsor your club

I feel bad for Akiho who was a bit sexually harassed by her teacher and Sumio Nagafukada. His parrot is weirdly perverted. Akiho certainly has the "impact." It's nice to see the relationship between Subaru and Kaito developed. Subaru hates Kaito, but he acknowledged Kaito's skills.

Episode 5

Just when I thought the whole Oniichan thing was only in Sword Art Online, Airi just brought it on. It's kind of cute yet creepy when you can interact with Airi on the phone. Looks like we got some NASA conspiracy to look forward. It's a nice mystery element in this show to add to the suspense to keep fans watching this show.

Oh, karma hits Kaito. That guy deserves being scared after teasing poor Junna.

Airi: May I ask you something, Oniichan?
