A jaded 25 year old who ends up working in the Shoujo Manga Editorial Department under his boss who used to be his crush in high school.
When he was a child, he had always liked reading books. That was why he decided to work in his father's publishing company when he was older. He started managing a famous author right away when he had joined. Sure, he felt pressured, and he had no idea how long it took to create a book. Nor did he expect all the questions that came with creating a book, but he was happy. He had always wanted to create a book that people would cherish, to see the book that an author poured all their heart and work into sell. He had no idea the only reason he was managing a star author right away was because he was the son of the guy who owned the company. At least, not until he overheard his jealous co-workers complaining about. It was then that he decided to quit his father's company and start over at a new company to make a book that sells millions. He wanted to prove that he was just relying on his father's success to get him anywhere. (This is all revealed in a flashback in episode 1)
Aside from his professional origin, Ritsu Onodera had admired his senpai from afar back in his high school days. He suddenly blurted out his feelings to his senpai in the library, and the two had started dating. All Ritsu could remember aside from all the kissing and other things they did was when he said something very serious to Saga. Saga laughed, so Ritsu interpreted it as "Saga was playing around with him this whole time; what a jerk!" And so, Ritsu dumped him without any hesitation. From that day on, Ritsu swore never to fall in love again.
In the present time, Ritsu had applied for a position in the Literature Department of Marukawa Publishing, but he ended up in Emerald's Shoujo Manga Department instead. While he intended to quit right away because he decided his boss, Takano, was a jerk; Takano ends up indirectly convincing him to stay by calling him useless. Because of Ritsu's pride, he decides to stick around and prove his worth. Later, Ritsu finds out that Takano's old name was Saga Masamune, the same person he had fallen for and confessed to ten years ago.
It is not known if the creator, Shungiku Nakamura, has any notes on Ritsu Onodera's creation.
