Revy is a anime/manga character in the Black Lagoon franchise

I have never been able to put into words why I dislike battle threads so much until now. It's because underlying all Battle threads is aggression. It puts two characters from two different anime and reduces them to ONE characteristic, their power.

Instead of having Battle threads, why don't we have "Friend threads"? Take two characters from different anime and consider how likely or unlikely they are to become friends, or get along, and explaining why. This would involve a deeper consideration of each character's personality, behavior and psychology, and would NOT reduce each character to just their power.

For example:

  • Fat Buu (after he turns good) and Ash's Pikachu: I think they might make good friends and could learn a lot from each other. Buu is kind of like a big kid who doesn't know his own strength. And Pikachu having traveled for ages with Ash, gained a strong sense of morality and life lessons, could teach a lot to Buu!
  • Saeko Busujima and Nico Robin: They have both suffered in interesting ways, and to a certain extent are both trying to reach out to others and make friends. They are both somewhat on the quiet side also. I think they might develop a sense of respect for each other, each having their own capabilities, maybe developing a sisterly bond. Saeko with her sword discipline and Nico having all that archaeology knowledge.
  • Panty and Revy: Both hot-headed and deadly. They probably would NOT make good friends at all. BUT perhaps if they were faced with a common enemy they could set aside their differences for a few moments, do some good-old kick-assery and in the end form some sort of truce... while still holding each other with some amount of disdain. :D

I think maybe part of the reason Battle threads are getting out of hand is because of the inherent aggression that underlies them. If we flip the switch and start making "Friend threads" I think it could make these forums a lot more warm and enjoyable for everyone. For me at least it seems a lot more fun and positive to consider how two characters might become friends than to consider how they might beat each other up. But again this is just an idea.

Perhaps we could create a new concept page for these "Friend threads" and go from there. If it were up to me I would abolish Battles threads entirely, have Friend threads as a replacement, and put more focus behind discussion threads and encouraging users to post their thoughts about the anime they're watching. But hey this is just an idea, take from it what you will. And as always, enjoy your anime!

Funimation has posted a trailer for the Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail without a release date yet. The OVA will be released in a DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack.

Plot

Brace yourself for a barrage of hot lead and shorts short in the gun-blazing follow up to the critically-acclaimed Black Lagoon. This tour de violence was inspired by the masters of mayhem John Woo and Quentin Tarantino -- and brought to you by the studio behind Hellsing Ultimate!

The cutthroat crew of Black Lagoon faces their stiffest challenge yet when a Venezuelan assassination sparks a killing spree that spans the globe. Roberta was a reformed assassin until a clandestine clash between politically backed acronyms claimed the life of her master. In flash of a muzzle, she goes from maid to murderer on a pill-popping, crimson stained quest for vengeance. When Revy and the gang are hired to stop Roberta's killing spree, they quickly find themselves in the middle of an international shootout starring everyone from the KGB to the CIA. The bullets are flying, the bodies are piling up in the street, and Roberta's painting the town red -- with blood.

Rei Hiroe is known for his Black Lagoon works, and he has another pen name called Red Bear of the Tex-Mex circle. Under the Red Bear of the Tex-Mex circle, he does a lot ero doujinshi such as Fate Stay Night, Hellsing, and even a Steins;Gates x Dusk Maiden of the Amnesia.

Characters

  • Rock is a third generation Japanese American who learned to speak Japanese for the role.
  • Dutch is an experienced actor - the entry on him also notes that most of the torpedo boat screens are CG, shot in studio against a green screen.
  • Benny is also playing against type and is a bit of a gossip magazine trouble magnet.
  • Balalaika is Russian American and has to turn up to the set earlier than the rest of the cast for her scar make-up.
  • Cheung is the big name actor from Hong Kong who's pretty quiet in person.
  • The twins are playd by a pair of German American girls.

Here are some snapshots of R of Black Lagoon and the actresses for Revy and Balalaika.

Now you can play with your toys to kill your friends for fun.

Playing with or against friends online is one of the major appeals in online gaming to me. I personally play tons of UNCHARTED 3's multiplayer, both Competitive and Co-op. It's a great little time killer. I've never really been into the MMO world on my PC, but I found something while browsing some Japanese sites that really got my attention. A rather popular MMO Third-Person Shooter game called Toy Wars in Japan (MicroVolts in Europe & U.S. / H.A.V.E. in Korea) added four members of the cast of Rei Hiroe's BLACK LAGOON to their list of player models back in early March of this year.

From the trailer, Toy Wars adds living figures of Revy, Roberta, Balalaika, and Shenhua to the roster. The attention to detail is impressive. Roberta uses her classic modified SPAS-12 shotgun that doubles as a shield, but Revy is using a grenade launcher in place of her Sword Cutlass. I only wish they also had an El Baile de La Muerte version of Roberta. You may actually be surprised how many MMOs are made that have anime characters as guest stars. The free to play Korean-made golf MMO Pangya offered costume sets for certain characters that made them look like Lelouch Lamperouge (Zero/Emperor), C.C., Kallen Kozuki, Suzaku Kururugi, and Anya Alstreim, Holo, and Craft Lawrence. Toy Wars even had figures from SUZUMIYA HARUHI and STRIKE WITCHES as an option at one time.

You can see the trailer of these ladies in action below.

If you're at all curious about this game. Check out the gameplay trailer I've posted below. What catches my attention is the impressive level of detail in character customization. I've tried to see if the European MicroVolts version of the game had these BLACK LAGOON models as an option, but I think you can only get these figures by downloading the Japanese version. A search of the forums on the MicroVolts' website led me to a posting that gives detailed tips on how to download this version. The game is pretty popular among the MMO enthusiasts. It's won accolades for MMOSite’s Reader’s Choice Awards in 2010 and MMOGames' Editor's Choice in April 2011.

Look at that ass!
Look at that ass!

Ok guys, or girls. I have a question for you. Which anime girl do you want? It could be for any reason. Maybe you like her personality. Maybe you like what she does (be it good or bad). Hell, maybe you think she's hot and just want a good ol' one night stand. My choice is going to be a woman that I'm into because of my current lifestyle and way of thinking. I'm sure my taste in anime women will change as I discover more characters and get older. But enought of my blabbering; let's get to the good stuff!

My choice is Revy of Black Lagoon. One could say she is damaged goods as she had a tough life growing up on the streets fending for herself and having to either kill or be killed just to eat. I learned more from The Second Barrage that she does have a soft side and can just chill but she is as woman of action down to the bone (and I like that). Despite not having a whole lot in common with Revy I like her because she doesn't take any shit, is decisive, is good with her hands (come on guys, she's Two Hands, duh!), and she is just straight up hot with her body and tat and hair. Not to mention that devilish smile. Her smoking and drinking doesn't bother me but I'd be sure not to cheat on her since she sometimes gets into a trance and causes mass mayhem. She lives a simple life just trying to make a living; she just happens to like guns. And her friends are pretty good people and seem like fun company. I'm sure she likes to get down and dirty as she is quite the bitch but I've grown to appreciate her other qualities.

Those are my thoughts. What do you Anime Vicers got?

Hello my fellow Anime fans! I'm new here and thought  I would post a blog about my first impressions of the site, plus I just had my wisdom teeth removed and I'm cracked out on pain medicine with nothing else to do so I thought, why not? Anyway, the site seems pretty cool so far, with a copious amount of  pages and really good staff contenet. I especially like Tom's WTF did I just watch articles on his impressions of Evangelion, as its one of my favorite series. The community here (as far as i've seen) is pretty nice and very knowledgeable about all different kinds of anime/manga.

Speaking of Anime, as I type this I'm watching Black Lagoon. So far it's been a really kick-ass series with great action scenes, and a surprising amount a character development, which I wasn't really expecting when I first jumped into the show. Currently I'm on episode 9 and I'm really digging the characters. Regarding Revy, at first I thought she was your typical Anime badass, and her excitement for wanton slaughter of both villains and innocents was kind of off putting. However, as the series has progressed she's become a deeper character that I'm actually interested in and I love her dark conversations that she has with Rock.

Anyway, that's it for now, as the pills are kicking in and its getting harder to type correctly.

Until next time.

So, I'm trying to get through this Black Lagoon series. Gia, and now Ana have promoted the love of Revy and her band of modern day pirates, so I broke.

Well, anyhoo, I'm on episode 16, and the scene starts with the Eda and Revy, drinking in a church, discussing why Revy hasn't banged the main character, any what kind of gun Jesus would use.

No, seriously, they have a discussion about them make and model of gun that Jesus would wield, were he alive today... I'm so amused.
