Resident Evil by Capcom is about a pharmaceutical company - Umbrella Corporation - secretly developing a bio-weaponry virus that breaks loose.
All games and movies revolve about the original story of pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation secretly developing a bio-weaponry virus that would cause people to turn into flesh-eating zombies and thus transmitting the infection.
Resident Evil or Biohazard as it is known in Japan is a horror survival game franchise created by Capcom. The original game was first released in 1996 on the PlayStation and was an immediate success. The game had its scary moments, action as well as puzzle solving.
Resident Evil 2 (1998) and Resident Evil: Nemesis (1999 aka Resident Evil 3) were also released on the PlayStation and Dreamcast. Resident Evil 2 was a 2 disc game. Each disc was dedicated to one character of the story. Players could start the game with either character and once completed, re-play the game with the same character but in swapped starting positions. Resident Evil 2 was also ported for the Nintendo 64. Eventually all three games were ported to the PC.
The fourth release was Resident Evil Code: Veronica (2000) on the Dreamcast. This game was later re-tweaked and re-released on the Dreamcast as Resident Evil Code: Veronica Complete which included minor changes and additional cut scenes. The game was later ported for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube as Resident Evil Code: Veronica X.
The following instalments where GameCube exclusives. These being the remake of Resident Evil, the prequel Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil 4 was later ported to the PS2, PC and Wii. Eventually all the previous Resident Evil games where ported to the GameCube.
A Resident Evil Gun-Con compatible trilogy was then released:
Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2 on the PlayStation 2 were online multi-character short storyline game mode of different survivors of the Resident Evil 2 and 3 survivors.
A number of games were also released for mobile devices such as the GameBoy. Also Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles was released in 2007 for the Wii.
Resident Evil 5 was released in March 2009. Players are assisted by AI or second player controlled new character: Sheva Alomar. The game takes place in the fictional town in Africa.
The successful game series gave way to three Sony Picture movies:
(The plots are adaptations of the original game storyline - i.e. a pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation secretly developing bio-weaponry virus. However non of the events or characters match the game series which caused mixed reception to the movies.)
Capcom released its own movies loyal to the game plot:
