Origin

Renji grew up in the Soul Society's 78th district of Rukongai in Inuzuri. He formed a group of other humans who came to the Soul Society alone. One day while trying to steal some water, they were chased down by the angry store owner. A young girl named Rukia tripped the man then guided them to safety. She joined their little family and they continued to live together. Renji did become resentful that Rukia began to show spiritual power similar to his own. After ten years, only Rukia and Renji survived of their small family. She suggested they become Shinigami and enter the academy.

They both entered the Shinō Academy, but struggled to fit in since they weren't of noble birth. His hard work paid off and he scored among the highest in the entrance exams. Renji earned a place in the top class along with Izuru Kira and Momo Hinamori. Two months later, Renji went on a special assignment to the Human World with his class to practice the act of Konsō. Renji, Izuru and Momo were in the same group, and the entire class came under attack from Hollows. Their group leader, Shūhei Hisagi, ordered a retreat after several were killed, but Momo tried to stay behind and fight. Renji and Izuru rescued her from attack but surviving seemed hopeless. As things seemed hopeless, they were saved by Captain Sōsuke Aizen and his lieutenant, Gin Ichimaru. They cut down these Hollows so easily that Renji joked that they were more monstrous.

Renji went to find Rukia after he graduated to tell her the good news, but walked in on a meeting she was having with the the 6th Division Captain, Byakuya Kuchiki, and his family. She had been adopted into the noble Kuchiki Family and automatically assigned into the 13th Division. He congratulated her, but she only left after thanking him. Renji then threw himself into training to try and defeat Byakuya, but each attempt failed.

After he graduated from the academy, Renji was assigned to the 5th Division under Aizen, along with Izuru and Momo. Renji was later moved to the 11th Division who was famous for their love of combat and became friends with Ikkaku Madarame. They trained together, and Renji learned that Ikkaku could use Bankai. Forty years had passed in the Soul Society since Rukia's adoption, then he was sent a letter to announce his promotion to the lieutenant position for the 6th Division. Izuru told him how Rukia was going on a mission to the Human World, and Momo encouraged him to hurry to tell her about his promotion. He decided to wait for her return to surprise her, but she never came back when she was assigned. Orders came from the top to arrest Rukia. Byakuya and Renji were sent to the Human World to return her.

Creation

BLEACH Vol. 6 JPN (Dec 2002)

The character of Renji Abarai is an antagonist of the BLEACH series that was created by Tite Kubo, It first began serialization Weekly Shonen Jump in August 2001. She was later introduced during the Lost Shinigami Substitute Arc story arc.

His first appeared in BLEACH Volume 6, CH. 51 "DEATH 3", and his first anime appearance was in BLEACH - Episode 16 "Encounter, Renji Abarai!". His standard Japanese voice actor is Kentarou Itou. The child version of Renji was voice by Reiko Kiuchi. For the U.S. dub produced by VIZ Media is done by Wally Wingert. There child version in the VIZ Media dubs is Yuri Lowenthal.

Powers and Abilities

Renji posses exceptional skill and power, even for a lieutenant of the Gotei 13.

• Flash Step: He has the ability to use Flash Step (Shunpo) technique. With this skill the user can travel at incredible speed.
• Kido: All Shinigami are trained in Kido spells at the academy.

Zanpakutō

The Zanpakuto of Renji is named the Zabimaru (蛇尾丸), which translates as "Snake Tail". It looks to be a regular katana, but when the first seal is released it changes into a sectioned whip blade. It's Bankai keeps a similar sectioned form, but in a far greater size with many more abilities.

Zabimaru's Forms

Sealed Form The sealed for is the first stage of the Zabimaru. In this form it merely appears as a long-katana. The guard is a rectangular shape. The handle is wrapped in black cloth.

Shikai Zabimaru in Shikai form The Shikai is the first released stage of the zanpakuto. It's only released when the user speaks the name of the blade and commands "Howl" (咆えろ, hoero). This is when the zanpakuto takes on it's most unique formations and becomes far more deadly. In Shikai, Zabimaru forms into six separate blades that becomes progressively wider.

Bankai Zabimaru in Bankai form The Bankai is the alast released stage of the zanpakuto. It can only be attained through dedicated training. To reach Bankai is to reach the level of a Captain of the Gotei 13. Though not a captain, Renji obtained the power of Banaki through intense training in order to defeat Byakuya and stop Rukia's execution. Hihiō Zabimaru 狒狒王蛇尾丸- is the name of his Bankai.
