Then, after he attempted to assassinate Aizen, it is revealed that what he did was for Matsumoto's sake.

Haineko is the incarnation of Matsumoto's zanpakutou. After the events of the Zanpakutou Rebellion, Matsumoto and Haineko have become, if not close, then at least amiable with each other.
