Rangiku Matsumoto "BLEACH" Vol. CH. 125
Rangiku Matsumoto is a lighthearted woman who is both kind but lazy in her work. Despite being older that her captain Toshiro Hitsugaya, she enjoys slacking off from her duties to sleep or drink with the other lieutenants. She has blond hair with blue eyes, and full lips. Her most prominent feature are large breasts that she is not shy about displaying in whatever fashion she's wearing. She also wears a chained necklace that drapes around her neck and between her cleavage. When required, she wears her lieutenant's emblem clipped to her sash.
Birthday: 29 September
Height: 172 cm (5'8")
Weight: 57 kg (126 lbs)
Matsumoto has been know to try and use her feminine charms to her advantage with mixed results. Though she has shown little to no romantic interest in anyone. Her past relationship with Gin has been a major influence and her confusion of his actions. Though, this has never stopped her from standing in his way to defend what she thinks is right. When in the human world, Rangiku tried to influence Ichigo to let him stay at his home by first unbuttoning her blouse further then lifting her skirt when that failed. Instead, she went to live with Orihime without an invitation and was not shy about complaints.
When she found Gin murdered by Aizen, she cried over his body and was never told his motives for following Aizen then turning on him suddenly.
Rangiku woke from a nap and walked in on a private conversation with Momo Hinamori, the 5th Division lieutenant, and Renji Abarai, the 6th Division lieutenant. They were confused about the recent chaos and gathering captains. Even she couldn't find her own captain, Toshiro Hitsugaya. Soon after the capture of Rukia Kuchiki, the Soul Society was invaded by four humans, but were unable to enter the Seireitei.
The reports spread that the humans, one with Soul Reaper powers, had managed to infiltrate the Seireitei. The lieutenants were told to wear their emblems and be armed with their Zanpakuto at all times. Rangiku was with Hitsugaya when they heard the horrific scream of Momo, who had found the murdered body of her captain, Sousuke Aizen. She had to restrain Momo from attacking Gin Ichimaru, thinking he was the killer. Matsumoto later gave Momo a letter written by Aizen to her as she sat in her cell. Unknown to any of them, this letter pointed the blame to Hitsugaya as the killer. Rangiku defied Hitsugaya's earlier orders and arrived to the battle just in time to block Gin's Zanpakuto with her own just in time to save Momo. Seeing Matsumoto, Gin stopped fighting. Matsumoto helped her captain take Momo to be treated, and news reached them that Rukia's execution date was being moved up. Along with Hitsugaya, she went to see the Central 46 to discover the truth behind this execution and stop it.
When they reached the Central 46, they found that the alarmed failed to go off when Hitsugaya broke in, and inside all the members were dead, killed days or even weeks before. They spotted Izuru Kira at the entrance and gave chase, but he told them that Momo had been following them. Rangiku stayed to fight Kira so Hitsugaya could return to save Momo. Izuru thought he had the advantage with his Wabisuke, but Matsumoto turned the tables by releasing Haineko's Shikai. She defeated him easily.
As the execution had been stopped the the intruder, Ichigo Kurosaki, the truth was finally revealed that Aizen was alive and behind the recent events. He was after the Hogyoku that was hidden inside Rukia's artificial Gigai body. He was also being helped by Gin and Kaname Tousen. Rangiku arrived to restrain Gin at sword point, but Aizen and the other traitors escaped via a portal to Hueco Mundo, the Hollow's world. Before he left, Gin glanced over his shoulders and apologized her Rangiku.
She was confused by Gin's motives, and Izuru came to apologize to her the next day. They drank heavily, and she broke it to him that she wasn't even being serious in their fight. Shuhei Hisagi joined them, and she tried to persuade the humans, who were now their allies. Shunsui Kyouraku, 8th Division Captain, wanted to drink with them, but Rangiku turned him down, because she didn't want to get chewed out by his lieutenant, Nanao Ise. The humans eventually returned to Earth, and everyone began to prepare for the coming battle with Aizen.
The reports reached the Gotei 13 of humanoid-Hollows called Arrancar that attacked in Karakura Town. The commander's response was to send Captain Htsugaya with Rangiku, Rukia, Renji, Ikkaku Madarame, and Yumichika Ayasegawa to Earth to act as defense. They posed as students at Ichigo's school using Gigai bodies. She tried to seduce Ichigo to let him stay at his home, but she and Hitsugaya went to stay with Orihime Inoue. There she tried to counsel Orihime on her feelings for Ichigo and jealous of Rukia.
Not another night passed when the Arrancar attacked under the command of an Espada, ranked Arrancar. Hitsugaya fought with Shawlong Kūfang in the sky, and Matsumoto battled Nakeem Grindina on the roof. The Arrancar had the advantage in the battle until they were allowed to release the power limiters they were put under. The tables are then turned as her speed in increased, and she kills him with her shikai released zanpakuto. Hitsugaya won, but was seriously wounded in the fight. Ranguki went to get Orihime to use her powers to heal him. She was proud of their victory, but Hitsugaya told her the ones they faced were weaklings when compared to the Espada.
Rangiku possesses exceptional skill and power as a lieutenant in the Gotei 13, but is not especially disciplined.
The Zanpakuto of Rangiku Matsumoto is named the Haineko (灰猫), which translates as "Ash Cat". It looks to be a regular katana, but the blade evaporates into ash once released. The particles move through the air as a blade and will cut as she directs with the handle. She has not been shown to of reached Bankai level of release. Because of her laziness tendencies, she has a tough time achieving Bankai
The sealed for is the first stage of the Haineko. In this form it merely appears as an elegantly crafted katana with a moderately long blade. The guard is formed in a etched crest-shape. The handle is wrapped in red cloth. This is the form that Rangiku primarily used in combat.
The Shikai is the first released stage of the zanpakuto. Similar to many other swords of the Soul Reapers, the handle nor the guard of Haineko change. The most drastic change is seen in the blade itself. The metal of the sword evaporates into a cloud of ash that she can control through the handle she holds. The volume of this ash is far greater that the original material of the metal blade.
Rangiku Matsumoto is a popular character in BLEACH and has made numerous appearances in the different products based on Tite Kubo's original manga. These include the anime, animated movies, and video games.
In the original anime that aired in Japan of Tite Kubo's BLEACH series, alterations were made to one of Rangiku's scenes from the battle during the Fake Karakura Town Arc. In the manga, Rangiku suffered serious injury during her fight with Ayon. The Arrancar literally ripped a portion of flesh from Rangiku. This was shown to be rather graphic for the manga, but the anime version lightened it by making it appear she was more seriously cut.
As a series based mainly on fighting and battles, Rangiku Matsumoto has made numerous playable appearances in the BLEACH series of games.
